Quote from: paddyjohn on August 04, 2025, 09:16:00 PMGood enough Un21 final. Some good performances on both sides.

Who were the standout performers?

I assume McLaughlin would be one and then Jack McCloskey though in saying that most of their scores seemed to be from frees too.

The ref was the stand out performer, in a game with not a dirty stroke in it it was free after free for overcarrying and soft silly frees. He really should have taken the conditions into account. Both sets of supporters were left a few times shaking their heads as to why frees were given. Maybe him & one of the linesmen should have swapped roles for the evening. 😉

The 3 McLaughlin lads for Cushendall were good, Bradley at 15 was a constant threat. Jack McCloskey was superb when he came out to the half forward line. I can't understand why it took the Shamrocks management so long to push their sweeper back up on Cushendalls free man. They were so worried about Fintan Bradley they conceded so much possession to the free man who in played a cork style running game and they picked Bradley off anyway.

A good game and tbh Ballycastle maybe a windy hole but it's still the best in the County for viewing games.

Are these not round robin games with the first team out having a home venue?

It's the 2nd round robin game. Glenravel have already played a home one according to the website. This is the neutral round

Quote from: let it fly on August 04, 2025, 04:19:11 PMHave to say it's a joke that some of this weekends championship fixtures have neither a time or venue on the antrim gaa website? Less than 6 days away is not good enough for players and family members trying to organise between which games to make it to. I'm currently juggling between family members of where to go and atm don't even know if it's feasible to attend my own u16 clubs game or championship for my son. I feel for the players and mentors who have this to deal with

Was there no times up for the games? I find that strange as the times were known by the clubs for the games.

They were posted to our fixtures list on social yesterday with all the times.

Also the first and last games are home advantage for the clubs with the second game being the neutral venue for each (Dunsilly being the most likely venue each time) in the senior championship.

In the intermediate the first named team has home advantage. With four games to be played each club gets two home and two away.

It's the junior fixtures all due to throw in at midnight and no venue other than the glenravel game 🙄🙄🙄🙄

Thanks.

I have never seen Bradley play though he seems decent from reports. Dunloy would be very good at that age so I suspect these 2 teams must be pretty decent too.

There are only 4 teams in the group so that's why a neutral fixture is needed for each team
Let no-one say the best hurlers belong to the past. They are with us now, and better yet to come

Na Glinntí Glasa

There hasnt been any neutral venues announced yet but you can guess that Dunsilly will get heavily used if its a north antrim v belfast fixture.

Maybe assumed Armoy v Ballymena in Loughgiel? Lamh Dherg v Gortnamona at Corrigan/Davitt Park?

Con Magees v Ardoyne - Glenarm (fair spin for Ardoyne)

Armoy v Ballymena - Glenravel

Lamh Dhearg v Gort Na Mona - Sarsfields

St Brigids v Davitts - Gort Na Mona

The venue for the Ardoyne game is terrible. Surely there was a pitch available elsewhere.

The LD contingent who run the county board must really have the knives out for Ardoyne hurlers........

Seems that way.

Gael-in-exile

Glenarm is certainly closer to Glenravel but not by that much more to make it unfair.
My bigger concern would be the game at Gort Na Mona. The last I was there a number of years ago it was a field with one line for a 65. That's tight for a football game but can make a bit of a mockery of hurling at senior level.

It's no where near adequate to host a senior game of hurling.

Davitts and St Brigids both play on pitches with one line for the 65 so might suit them !

Google maps says 44 mins from Ardoyne, 32 mins from Con Magees. We're not talking Jim McGuinness numbers here.

Gael-in-exile

It again brings up the issue of lack of infrastructure in Antrim.
I would argue this impacts on clubs developing their games also. If you play for Rossa, St Paul's or St John's you are limited to one pitch with no lights. They all make use of pitches elsewhere for training and games but it removes the community element to the club when a 12 year old may never play or train on the home ground. And if they aren't big club people that child may never visit the club home ground.

City clubs are hindered by space more that some in the country but across there is a distinct lack of facilities in comparison to other counties.
Do we have any pitches outside of PG & All Saints suitable for hurling under lights?

Is is something that the county need to have a real strategic look towards??

Tír na nÓg have lights and Ahoghill have lights as well.

Either would have been a more sensible venue for those teams.

But I suppose both are hosting their own championship games over the weekend and maybe didn't want to give up the pitch and organisation.
