Omagh would always have rated themselves, possibly overrated themselves over the years, but that aside, they have a history of sorts, having 8 club senior championship titles and thought of as a team you would like to avoid in the championship draw, unfortunately for them over the last couple of years that is not the case, the only points Omagh have secured this year has been against Gortin and Derrylaughan, they have lost 5 in a row, with a total of 2 wins and 6 losses.
Massive game on Friday night v Dromore who have already made changes in their management team.

Omagh probably have more Grade 1 youth titles overall than any other Tyrone club (not much between them and Dungannon), and they were especially cleaning up in the 2006-2010 period but the youth titles have significantly dropped off for them since 2010. Whatever players still involved from that youth era will be on the wrong side of 30 now.

As I said, Omagh had 4 representatives on the U20 Tyrone panel a couple of years ago, they would be 22 at most now, they also had a minor team who competed in a Grade 1 final in 2020/21, those lads would be 23 at most now, they have had 2/3 players on the Tyrone senior panel over the last 2-3 years...a lot of clubs would be very glad of having those players at their disposal, for whatever reason the results aren't there.

Last years last gasp defeat to Killyclogher still lingers perhaps, they'd be hopeful of passage to the second round of the championship which is a completely different season to league, with everyone back they might have a kick in them, many of the mainstays of the 2 recent O'Neill cup wins will be finishing up the next few years, bit of a Coalisland-Clonoe type issue if the next crop aren't as driven

Youth titles not the be all and end all. Ardboe and Cookstown are there or thereabouts every age group every year in Grade 1 and where does it get them.

Derrylaughan advertising for a Club Coaching & Development Officer... £27,000 a year if anyone interested in applying.

By what metric does a club decide its worth paying some guy 27k a year, if not titles?

Ouroborous

A much better use of funds than paying a long line of senior managers to take scrap IMO. That's not directed at Derrylaughan in particular btw but the amount of clubs who are throwing money at men to take teams who are going nowhere is ridiculous, especially when they are doing nothing at juvenile.

I imagine a big part of this role would be to improve numbers & standard of juvenile football so that in 10 years time they might have a team at senior that somebody could do something with. That might not mean that Derrylaughan are winning a pile of underage titles btw.

They amalgamate at underage? Being able to field teams by themselves would be a good starting point I think.

Build numbers, build culture, retention, cream will rise. Rinse and repeat.

Great to get the Championship dates for the business end of the season. Plenty of league football still to be played yet with 6/7 games remaining in Division 1 and 2.

Any early predictions for the drop?

Not sure what the ouroborous remark means here to be honest. perhaps showing my own density. Do you think its not worth paying or something else?

I believe at present all age groups bar 1 they can field their own team with subs but a freak year with 1 lad and 2-3 classes worth of girls had forced their hand and jointed them to neighbouring Derrytresk who insisted all competitive age groups or none at all.

This has resulted in a couple of different scenarios playing out. all teams have an average of 2-3 Derrytresk players but mean Derrylaughan players are exposed to a higher standard because of a full panel of quality players. but also means that more Derrytresk players are sitting on the bench watching on than ever before.(has to be a drawback for them)

This will likely finish in a Gortin like scenario from the start of the year. wont last forever and only 1 club benefitting is what I'm hearing.

Snake eating its own tail

GAA is allegedly a volunteer lead organisation.

GAA wants a good game thats marketable

Clubs pay money they take from local communities and volunteers to pay a professional coach.

Coach is expected to produce verified results, pressure to show results = underage trophies.

Unless they're doing a detailed skills audit every so often to demonstrate how individuals are progressing.
