He is still the greatest of them all. RIP Micko!

Ah that's sad and also definitely merited it's own thread. RIP Micko. One of the greatest ever alright.

An all time great! He had the football brain and the Kerry man cunningness to add to it.

A great footballer, a great manager, but moreover a great man. We played Kildare in a friendly when he was over them and we drew,  he came into the changing afterwards and gave an oration about how to play football and the beauty of it that I've never heard the like of and then sat for a good hour after it exchanging tales over tea with us. A rotten wet windy day in Celbridge and he had time for everyone.

RIP Micko

Lovely story BCB, you are a lucky man, what a great memory of a great man.
RIP Micko

Truth hurts

An iconic figure in our games, A sad day.

He had some appetite and love for the game. Running a hotel and playing for and managing his own county, but then also spending another 15 years traveling up and down to various Leinster counties from the remote tip of the Iveragh peninsula! Even heading up to Ennis from Waterville is a trek. Yeah, I'm sure he was getting great mileage and the rest, but the obsession and drive to do that for so long. A bit like Mickey Harte I guess.

Has to be the greatest in terms of impact on the game.

Gave us a summer that we'll never forget in Laois in 2003.

Sad to hear.

I grew up with his  Kerry team, the last few years anyway.  A great  team , and he was an iconic figure.

Never met the man , but  I met his statue in Waterville , and been in his pub.

So many stories  I've heard , many I can't recall now.

RIP Micko

Rossfan

He had a long innings in football and in life.

One of the few men in Ireland distinguishable by his moniker "Micko" and everyone knows who he is.

RIP Micko, Kerry and Irish legend.

RIP. What can you say about the man. Icon of Gaelic football and the GAA.
It won't be the next manager but the one after that Meath will become competitive again - MO'D 2016

Bord na Mona man

He had some appetite for football. How many hundreds of thousands of miles did he drive to spread the game?
