I wonder if Poacher was being paid per game would he have made the same decision. He probably thought if he played a weakened team and got hammered it may look bad on him and effect his chances of getting a better job after Leitrim. There's a reason he can't get a job in Ulster, the bookmakers in Leitrim would understand.

Has he a 2 year or 3 year 'contract' with Leitrim?

Do the GAA hammer Leitrim CB for not fielding a team - as in a big fine to set an example to other teams.

League is a great competition but recently it's changing. Poacher not fielding with Leitrim and other teams not wanting to get to the finals.

All very strange.

I'd try and get to the final and win it. Then get set for championship. I think a week is plenty of time.

Obviously 2 weeks would be better but a  week is grand. They know who they're playing months out and I'd be surprised that teams aren't working on their tactics for that game a bit every week also.

The most important thing is their recovery between games.

Are Sligo the first side to hit the 30 point mark since the new rules came in?

Lone Shark

0-32, 30 white flags and one orange. 0-1 from a free, 0-31 from play. That's mad stuff.

FermGael

Happy enough to stay in the division.
But of luck against Clare and we could have went up

Again we made very hard work of Laois today but we finished strong.
Bench made a difference today when introduced and it's good to see we have nearly a full panel with the exception of Ultan Kelm.

We need Ultan back if we are to trouble Down.

Wanted.  Forwards to take frees.
Not fussy.  Any sort of ability will be considered

Kildare top the league, although there was some negativity after Clare and Offaly games - the latter especially was v poor.

Started v well today againts the wind, but Antrim kicked a few 2-pointers with the wind. Kirwan coming in makes a huge difference as he is the focal point for our attack. He really shows for the ball and the lads look for him early.

We have some very direct running young players too, so will be interesting to see how the Final goes.
them mysterons are always killing me but im grand after a few days.sickenin aul dose all the same.

They should play Kildare v Offaly under lights in Portlaois,it would sell out and be a great atmosphere

Is there much of a buzz around Offaly football now?

One of the traditional football counties hit always got the feeling from afar that hurling is the big game there now.

Correct me if wrong.

Is the ref going to finally blow his whistle?... No, he's going to blow his nose

Offaly won the Under-20 football in 2021 and this is now feeding through to their senior team.
Both their hurlers and footballers hit lows over the past 20+ years but are now on an upward curve - Micheal Duignan played a key role in their re-emergence as Chairman of Offaly County Board.

Thinking back of that Offaly team that denied Kerry their 5-in-a-row makes one nostalgic for the game we then knew.
I'm thinking of their half-backs, Pat Fitzgerald, Sean Lowry and Liam Currams, gallivanting up the field for their first 3 points that day.

SLIGONIAN

It was strange league for us, after an horrendous start we got going and we look to be in form. Hard to take anything from beating Leitrim yesterday. In the early rounds many felt management let us down as they seem to not have us prepared to take advantage of the new rules being too loyal to players that aren't suited to them. We haven't really unearthed anyone new or looked to so its pretty similar team with subs made at the same times in most games. Not sure what we have up our sleeve but there is a lot of the u20s not getting any gametime so for me to justify that you should be progressing further. We will see how we do against Mayo in 2 weeks. Id have concerns how we handle Hession coming out of defence, Ruane in Midfield and Donoghue up front. O Shea has always caused us a lot of problems. We have plenty of players to cause them issues too but we need to get on top in middle third.

Next years Division 3 looks a bit stronger, with Down and Westmeath coming down and Wexford and Limerick going up.

Would fear for our lads against a full strength Kildare side. Kildare great chance of winning Leinster with the dubs going do poor.

Good man Larry, the "Offally" lads might not fear Kildare the way you do though.

Buzz might be going too far. There is definitely more optimism.
The Harte appointment has given a big fill-up, but it wasn't necessarily seen as a slam dunk appointment when it happened. There were some doubts at the time - joint manager tensions, old soldiers retiring or dropping out.

Offaly are not a sleeping giant, but over the last decade they've been producing better underage teams than other mid-level Leinster counties (Westmeath, Leix etc) but without ever looking like becoming a fixture in Division 2.

The U20 team that won the All Ireland 2021, had some strong players that are coming through.
Funny thing is, they won that All Ireland playing hard-running, fast attacking football. The style of play that doesn't work at senior, against massed defences with 15 players behind the 45. The rule changes this year has been a boost to some of the smaller, speed merchants on that team.

Captain Scarlet

Against Kildare you destrpyed us with hard direct running. Also, No 11 got his hands on an amount of ball. Kinda slight fella, but lovely skills. That's also a plus when teams can't fully clog things up.

There were a few changes v Antrim and Kirwan is back which is huge. We were really missing him as a focal point. Be interesting to see both teams in Croke Park. There's plenty of legs on both sides.

Bolton, Dalton and Sinkey are all straight up from U20 for Kildare and are showing up a lot of the older heads. They are well able to take it on.

A bonus to be in there to see Clifford and the likes too.
