Spent some time in Castlecaulfield over the last few weeks. They will have a need for their own Gaa team in next 10 years.

I  always thought that Castlecaulfield and Donaghamore were like Ederney and Kesh, geographically close in one sense but miles apart culturally.

All not well in Gortin. Full Committee stepped away!

They terminated the link with Glenelly against previous agreements between the two clubs. Didn't sit well with a lot within Gortin.

From what I hear it's the opposite. A group of parents totally against the link with glenelly and have forced the committee out because of it

they want their children to play for gortin only

Bit of a mess in Pomeroy, gonna be looking for their 3rd manager of the season and its only February. Man they had left after 16 turned up for training? Apparently losing alot to USA as well. They could really struggle this year.

Yep lots of young Catholic families moving into new developments in what has traditionally been a staunch Unionist village. I'd say its a big reason why Donaghmores numbers are among the biggest in the county and can easily see a Castlecaulfield GAA team in my lifetime.

Seen a few county players talk about how the new rules require more fitness. How will club players handle it if the schedule is like last season where teams are playing 2 games in the space of about 4 days? You'd need a big panel to cope with it

What do you mean you don't buy it lol? Players were saying it after the railway cup and Jim McGuinness said it after the Dublin game. "They lost three players to hamstrings. Peadar Mogan is one of our fittest players but he was really struggling in the last 15 minutes" "These lads are so finely tuned now that the tears are more aggressive, they're deeper because the players are much more explosive. And you're now looking at a month or six weeks for the likes of hamstrings when it used to be a week or 10 days." Is he just making that up then or what?

I agree 100%.  Mc Guinness wants another sub. That's what his angle is.

I agree 100%.  Mc Guinness wants another sub. That's what his angle is.

Any man with any sense can see the logic of the 6th sub. It is early season, little or no preparation (6 weeks is not long enough) for an intense NFl season followed by championship.
McGuinness and Dessie are not the only managers/players calling for it but they are high profile so quote them.
As it stands at the minute, clubs get a longer pre season than county teams!!

Talking to an ex AFL pro years ago said the game went soft when they allowed unlimited (up to 75) interchange subs in a game, gone were the days of blowing hard, playing with a knock and having to keep playing hard making decisions etc. McGuinness wants subs for the sake of it, was it Dessie or Jim who made a tactical sub in the first half, then cries for more subs. Just get on with the game

Gortin & Glenelly combined are Both Domhnaigh
none of those teams are in the latest minor gradings but the gradings appear strange - a lot of teams in Grade 2 and only 3 teams in Grade 4.

Mondays crisis meeting was a low point for our club. Some low blow comments made on the night. In the end up Thatcher Keenan and the rest of the committee walked. I hope more KC / Omagh lads join us to allow us to field on our own going forward.

very short sighted, if all of a sudden there's a decent group at one age and parents want to go on their own..the baloney amalgamation appears on the outset to have been a roaring success, with both senior teams benefitting..glenelly not be far away soon from promotion
I know the likes of Doiri Oga met with Badoney to get an understanding of how there's worked
Doiri Oga seems to be going well too, though Im sure it will have its challenges also

could a second team not be entered at certain age groups if numbers are bigger than usual?

Gortin needs to ask themselves what's better
amalgamated team at g1 or g2 bringing through good seniors or scraping team in g3-4 fulfilling fixtures

unless they can point to a future path of sufficient numbers to field consistently & competively on their own and a conveyor belt of players capable of keeping Gortin in senior football then its hard to know if there's justification to split
