Big win for the hurlers today up in Owenbeg.

A good spread of scorers too.

Sets them up well for promotion to 1B.

Absolutely brilliant win today, really poor in the first half but what a second half.

McEvoy, Havern, Guinness and McCrickard all great in the second half I thought.

Mooney and Murdock both had poor days but that'll happen.

I'm a fan of most of new rules too

Guinness with a monster 2nd half. Magill excellent also and what a goal!  Can't agree with Mccrickard... 2 shots one terrible wide and one short into keeper. Down crying out for a brilliant inside forward. Young keeper looked quite assured. Could do nothing about the Cork goals. You could argue 2 toughest games out of the way. Home wins will keep us in Div 2

What a 2nd half. We gifted Cork at least 1.04 in the 1st half. Caught with only 2 up twice in a matter of minutes and a poor kickout for the goal
But brilliant shift put in in 2nd half. Couldve won by more and could've lost it at the death.
Down got a grasp of the game with about 5 mins left of thr 1st half and could've scored 3 goals in that time.  Brilliant, well pleased with that performance keep it up lads .

Great win, brilliant second half, Cork seemed to punish every Down mistake in the first half and it looked at one stage that the match was getting away from us. The couple of points at the end of the first half made the deficit more manageable.

Agree on McCrickard, while he won a few balls that went into him, his shooting let him down. Danny Magill, Ryan McEvoy and Daniel Guinness in particular were excellent in the second half and drove the team forward. Ronan Burns was decent on his debut and I thought young Paddy McCarthy was very good in defence.

That's a win that should give the team a lot of confidence going into the Meath game next week.

Am I right that this is the first time we've beaten Cork since the All-Ireland semi final in 1994?

Fair enough to both on McCrickard, I just thought his movement inside and showing for the ball gave something that was lacking in the first half. His shooting was poor enough that said

A tough hard game today and great to get win as I expect the remainder games to be a dogfight like today. At least we demonstrated we are up for the fight to stay in this division...

I would say it is. In all my years following Down beating Cork in 1994 was one of the most complete performances I remember. We destroyed them that day.

Meath are up next, and it's a hell of a long time since we beat them. I remember getting a draw in Navan under Wee James on a very windy day, but have we beat them since '91?

Meath is a big game for Down. Meath  had 40 shots in PUC last week and still lost. E need to tighten up the defence.
Bar the 1st goal I think Down defended OK yesterday but still room for improvement. The mistakes yesterday nearly killed us.
On conor McCrickard I think he offered something we didn't have in the 1st half. A target man. I'm sure his scoring will come.
Winning kickouts is now thr most important part of the game. Cork won most of thr breaking ball yesterday. Down got to grips a bit in 2nd half.
A lot of positives to take from both league games.
The new changes definitely make for a more exciting product.
The refs are badly struggling though according to Gough on OTB last week.

We beat them in Newry in league in 2017

skat man

we need inside forwards, mc crikard was a step in the right direction. the lad from castlewellan and savage are decent players but not good enough at winning primary possession at county level . oran and pat are middle third players . Mccrikard has to start the next game. bring in someone like ohare from mayobridge to show them younger lads how to make runs to win a ball . Not their fault as they havent had space for their careers

Great win for the hurlers. Almost a 20 point win over Derry, in Derry.

Almost every forward got on the scoreboard, as did a few of the backs. Didn't concede any goals, which is a rare enough thing in a game of hurling. Very complete performance. Delighted.

Was nervous going into this game, but Down look to be in very good form at the minute.  Leaves Down top of Div 2,  with both a very strong points difference, and head-to-head advantage over second placed Kildare.

I was surprised at how Kildare hammered Kerry. Kerry will need to beat Down to keep their promotion hopes alive, so there will be a target on Down's back, but we'll worry about that in a few weeks.

Next up is Donegal at home. After the first few rounds, will be expecting a Down victory, but it could be tricky enough. Donegal have improved massively in the past few years. Perhaps the most improved team in Ulster, and a few very handy players. Beat Down in the McGurk final last year, so it's not out of the realms of possibility.

But we've a lot to be hopeful about. Division One hurling is looking a real possibility. Carlow beating Waterford shows teams of our level can compete.  A lot of good work being done around the county.

Well done to the footballers. Delighted.  Some turn around. Hopefully this is the start of better things for the big ball. First time they've beat Cork since the 2010 All Ireland loss is it? Never a bad thing to beat Cork after that ;)

Great to see a bit of chat and a bit of buzz about the football again. It's been missed the past couple of years.

on the sideline

When does the Down club season start?

Truth hurts

Does anyone know the  nights that underage football will be played on?
