Thought Mary Raggan in Rte news web called in in her last two paragraphs .
Humility lacking .

Common statement, but in the end it seems to make no difference.
Agreed
Love the explaining away of Lowry being acceptable to government but SF are not.

For someone who has no idea what has went on here... what is a summary??

Rossfan

Seems a deal was made that the 4 members of the Independent group who didn't get ministerial jobs would form a technical group (with Aontú and 2 others?) and sit on the opposition benches.
They would then get speaking time as an opposition group even though they are part of the Coalition.
The real opposition got upset (rightly so) and kicked up a stink in the Dáil yesterday....
Throw in a raw Ceann Cómhairle and the scene was set.

The CC job was another part of the deal.

If I was a FF or FG backbencher I'd be a bit pissed off too looking at all the goodies going the Indies way.
Play the game and play it fairly
Play the game like Dermot Earley.

It's a cynical way of reducing the amount of time the opposition get for speaking, whilst increasing government speaking time. If SF pulled a fly one like this they'd be labelled undemocratic fascists.

Are you talking about me???

Lowry is infamous/famous since his days as Tipp chairman and all his wheeling and dealings ever since which always seem to benefit him.

Did that Casino in Two Mile Borris ever get built?

So  what's the solution?

Another election?

Bsically FFG and their cronies (esp. Lowry) tried to be anti-democratic but the opposition pulled them up on it.

MM and SH went off on faux outrage ouside the Dáil last evening. Their pretend anger was funny.

I heard that clown Thoms Byrne on the radio last week with Carthy of SF. Debating the issue. Padraic Mac Lochlainn had flagged this issue about 2 weeks ago. But Byrne was saying it wasn't going to be an issue. FFG clearly as arrogant as they come.

Great to see them taken down a peg or two.

PS. Lowry. How ironic MM and SH doing business with him. #moriartytribunal

No, a deal has been done. The independent group involved in government won't be recognised as technical group today, so won't have opposition speaking rights.

That should allow the election of MM as Taoiseach, and new government to follow.
Ceann Comhairle still to make final decision re how the independents will be treated.

Regardless of rights and wrongs, and I think everyone agrees the independents can't have it every way, the scenes in the Dáil yesterday were pathetic.

In what other profession would that sort of shouting and roaring be tolerated? They should all be embarrassed at themselves.
Daily reform needed as to how disagreements can be handled. Anyone roaring and ignoring CC should be immediately ejected from the chamber, and I think should be banned for X number of sitting days.

I'm loving the deflection.  Look over there! FFS.

Every political commentator has called this out for what it was. An anti-democratic stunt by Martin, Harris and their quisling Lowry. They tried to force this through by arrogance.  But they were found out.

This was their making and they knew it was going to happen. It was flagged 2 weeks ago. That's the whole point of this. They left Murphy in a fix. Washed their hands off her and then had their faux outrage last night. It was embarrassing alright...for Martin and Harris.

Let's hope, for everyone's sake, Martin and Harris drop their arrogance and show a bit more humility going forward.

I noticed they put  the blame on SF last night.  It's all about  the SF-bashing, keeping  them out and keeping them down

As seen with Martin's  disgusting comments about the  Troubles  a few weeks ago.

Nothing surprises  me about those  two.

The Boy Wonder

It's crazy in this day and age that the Dail Clerk takes a roll call of votes from all TDs on the Order of Business.
What a waste of time. Is there any reason why there can't be electronic voting ?

Captain Scarlet

All the FF/FG Politicians rolled out saying how the opposition were a disgrace. Imagine, shouting in the Dáil!!! Do they realise that they have Healy Rae on their side now

Then Thomas Byrne went at Bacik saying she joined in with SF and trotted out behind them. In fairness RTÉ and Virgin both asked the Goivt heads is it right and what should happen with Lowry and they waffled.

Fionnan Sheahan on Prime Time also made the senior hurling analogy in terms of new TDs and the Independents. Healy Rae huing up on RTÉ Drivetime, thinking he can act like a loudmouth but he is has a position now and it's not all about Kerry. They need to cop on.

Plus, on Prime Time they pretty much said it looks like Verona Murphy was part of the deal made by Lowry. They also said that the Govt don't want Lowry sitting with them for optics.

But, the opposition were big meanies so let's look over there!
them mysterons are always killing me but im grand after a few days.sickenin aul dose all the same.

What deflection?
I said the arrangement they tried to push through was wrong, and I didn't say any side was better or worse than the other yesterday.  They all acted appallingly.
But as usual, some people can only see it as "us against them".
Grow up a bit.
