Quote from: Cluborcountywhynotboth on November 07, 2024, 05:47:04 PMThe county board and the self appointed CEO are the main issue here as they can't seem to agree among themselves never mind nothing else (and the CEO should resign). However, involved in every step of this saga appears to be Cathair OKane and his input, how many people has he named as possible Derry managers only for them to then come out and say they have heard nothing about it. As well as obviously being a mouth piece for certain members of the county board, He is also as toxic an entity as there has been in Derry football for a long time, and has had a huge impact in the current view of the Derry job as a position chalice.

Comment of the day. 👌

I couldn't agree more with this post. Cahair Okane has been stirring the pot for months, gave his opinion like it was gospel, and turned into a jock shock merchant and for what to get a few clicks - he hardly has doire best interests. I bet we will all see him on off the ball at some point giving his 'expert' take on the state of Derry football, when in reality he is at the centre of the mess with his colleagues rehashing a story for 2 years about how Derry couldn't possibly bring back RG. The article about Doran being the best available option stands out (truly laughable) and it read like something Keenan had handed him. Not sure who the mole is but I can't remember the last time an active Derry player gave him an interview.

Can't see why any manager in Ireland would touch the job now.

How much was Harte on? 100k
Gallagher maybe the same?

Surely someone would manage Derry even just for the money.

Doran hunted out of S'neil along with his bald leprechaun after being linked with the Derry job lol Gallagher now being linked with the vacant role

Management merry go round in full flow

So was last night executive committee meeting just a meeting to drink tea, eat biscuits and chat about the mild weather? Or was there actually any update on the quest to find a new manager? Is there a way that chairman and CEO can actually be voted out in a motion of no confidence??

Quote from: Rawhide on November 05, 2024, 12:14:25 PMThis is simply a complete failure of leadership on the behalf of the County Chairman John Keenan and the Operations Manager Stephen Barker. If either had an ounce of integrity they both should resign at the AGM.

That may sound harsh, however in their roles they have mismanaged and overseen a mess.

As I said the other day.

This is now a resigning matter!!

Chair and CEO need to resign. They have overseen chaos from the start of this until now. Absolute incompetence. We are a laughing stock!!

What do you want them to do. Come on the GAA board and give us all a minute by minute update? It'll surely be in the Irish news before lunchtime

How good as an intermediate side would Ballinderry be would they be fancying going the whole way?  Carrickcruppen be a well coached side and Eoin Woods was with the county a few years ago has been the player of intermediate championship in Armagh.  Cruppen were beat by Randalstown a few years ago first round in Ulster though they have had 4/5 new players in the team since then.

Funny because it's prob true

'It is my understanding' the Owenbeg printer ran out of ink last night printing p45s  ;D

Looking on from the outside it looks like there needs to be a bit more clarity on what's going on from the County Board. However as they search to fill the role I'm not surprised they are trying to keep the info in house. The problem in the GAA is that in boards there are several viewpoints so it is hard to ensure everyone is pulling in the one direction.
I'm not sure why managers see Derry as a team they wouldn't want to manage, surely that's the question that needs answered. Maybe asking those who have turned it down would give a better indication of what needs fixed.

As for the Irish news reporter, his job is to report you can't have a go at him for doing that even if he is a Derry man

Keyser soze

Have you never heard the saying 'paper never refused ink'.

COK is a reporter who has a column to fill every day, he is reporting speculation and rumour about the Derry job the same as every GAA reporter does for the lean 6 months there's no county football on. I can't understand the angst on here against him as all he has done has repeated, in print, rumours that everyone on here has heard in the street [maybe some of them even started on here lol].

At worst he has embarrassed himself by printing stories that turned out to be absolute bollocks. To say that he has any influence on whether someone would take or refuse the job is nonsense, the calibre of person needed for this type of post is not going to be swayed by what is on the back pages.

We are very young and inexperienced with the exception of ryan Bell, Darren lawn and Mckinless who is suspended for 2 games and will now miss the game on Sunday after his 2 yellow cards against Faughanvale. So the bookie price of 4/11 is a bit short when our key player is out. However if we manage to get a win it would leave us in semi final v derrylaughan/all saints. Both well coached sides. This is essentially bonus territory for a young side who stood up and coped with the pressure of being part of the first Ballindery team to go down and play Intermediate. So fair play to them for bouncing straight back. I'd imagine the new derry manager will be looking closely at Niall Odonnell again. He's an exceptional talent and could make the step up to county. Ruairi forbes is also a big talent who has all the attributes to become a big player for us and hopefully Derry
