Did some people really think Celtic would get a result last night? What was this based on?

Dortmund are a very good team.

I think Celtic went in on a high thinking:

1. Dortmund were average enough in terms of their start to the season.

2. Celtic were full of confidence and playing well (in their own league and beat a very poor team in CL's first game).

That balloon popped after 5 mins. Over run in mid-field with no sitting midfielder. Should have parked bus for 10mins at 2-1 but Rogers never changed and Celtic got badly exposed.

Celtic could have scored a couple more goals (Idah had a handy one) but defense is the problem. Celtic are decent going forward.

When you have Taylor, Trusty and Scales in defence, a real good tam will expose them. Not impressed with Trusty at all - he, so far, seems not better than what Celtic had in their already.

Need to invest in one quality defender in next window. Build it bit by bit.

Celtic are brutal in Europe against the better teams. They don't seem to try too hard. Rangers put up a better effort in their European games.

Really don't understand BR approach to these games. Getting hammered 5,6,7s away and point blank refusing to adapt to a more defensive style.

Barca, Dortmund etc are far, far away from the level of Dundee, Hearts etc, yet Celtic naively try to press teams who can cut them open with 2 or 3 passes and who are much more unforgiving to mistakes. You just can't try and go toe to toe with them, especially away from home.

The SPL is nowhere near the level of the EPL, La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga and cruising it in domestic football shouldnlt let you think it is.

Also..... at which point will it sink in.... CalMac is not and never will be a DM.

He really doesn't learn, read on twitter 3rd time we've shipped 6/7 in Europe on his watch

You're maybe on the wind up and I have no skin in the game here but I don't think using Rangers an example is very apt

QuoteRangers have become the worst team in Champions League history after losing 3-1 at home to Ajax.

The Scottish giants have struggled in a fiendishly tough Group A, losing all six of their games to Ajax, Liverpool and Napoli.

Rangers' goal difference of -20 is the worst of any side who have lost all six games in the competition's history.

This is all on Brendan Rodgers. It can't be naivety, is it ego? Or stupidity?

There's a huge difference between getting a result and enduring a humiliation.

I'd have been delighted with a draw and a 1 or 2 goal defeat would have been disappointing but entirely understandable, however ANOTHER 7 goal hammering under BR = unacceptable.

We've now lost (away in CL under BR)
7-1 v Dortmund
6-0 v Athletico
7-1 and 5-0 v PSG
7-0 v Barca

Look at the teams you've listed. Celtic are completely light years behind all those teams. Celtic getting results in Europe is like a 3rd division team hoping to get a result against a premier league team in the FA cup (it happens once in a while). If Brendy parked the bus and Celtic got beat 3 nil last night people would be giving off for them 'not having a go'.

Just for context the difference in squad cost for Celtic's last 2 games.

Celtic, man for man, absolutely would have inferior teams compared to these, but there are plenty of lesser teams in the CL who have successfully set themselves up as hard to beat away from home and get results.

Saying fcuk it let's go man2man and attack all out because the fans demand it is crazy, there are ways to be defensively minded but still 'have a go' on the counter.

I'd also suggest that most fans would prefer some form of set up that (at least on paper) gives the team a chance and doesn't result in utter humiliation..2-0 or 3-0 away to an elite team is understandable, 7-0, 7-1 etc you are a laughing stock.

No other manager in the CL has consistently had these type of results, I would imagine because after one hiding away from home they learn a lesson.

Ball retention absolutely pitiful. There'll be tears again

No1

Can't keep the ball for more than 2 minutes! Don't think that's on the manager tho, players making ridiculous decisions. Need a few prayers to get a point out of this.

Milltown Row2

Doing a hell of a lot better than last time away from home
None of us are getting out of here alive, so please stop treating yourself like an after thought.

Capt Pat

Celtic might get something out of this. Atalanta who are a strong team look out of sorts.
