Around the glens

Dunloy have earned their stripes to play in the senior championship. The fact that their league and championship team is different is no fault of their own.

If they had of been beat out the gate on Sunday you could've said last year was a fluke. Not the case.

Quote from: NorthAntrim on September 17, 2024, 02:29:22 PMWe need to forget about this stadium. Modern version of what stood there 13 years ago. Terrace area and a good quality stand to accomodate what we as Antrim people need and have missed for 11+ years. Floodlight, good surface, comfortable stand for our County finals and League and championship County games

Should never have been closed. Pitch was in excellent condition, yes the stand was run down but by God. Standing on the terrace of Casement or the grass hill of Corrigan. The gates shouldve been closed when the diggers were about to move in, contractors sorted and planning finalised. Whoever made that decision has cost hundreds of Antrim gaels a home

Jim Murray, everyone knows that. Complete disgrace

I'd maybe remove that..just saying? Those were different times, no SBF about then, days before Saffron Vision. Dark days, thankfully so much has changed.

Dunloy far from the only club who field league teams greatly different to their first choice championship team.

And why league form not a great gauge for championship.

Lets be honest, The whole league/ championship set up has been a cluster fxxk. Div 1 has been nothing but a series of glorified  challenge games with some weaker teams setting great emphasis on it in order to survive, while some of the stronger teams were just happy to survive. Teams not fielding in league "semi-finals" tells it own story. There are 6-8 teams who are better than the rest by some distance and could really be classed as senior. Clubs need to accept their level and build from there. As I've asked before, what is the hurry to get leagues completed by late june/ early July? It's not as if our county teams are expected to go on extended all-ireland runs, and if they do- we can cross that bridge as a welcome headache!  Do we really need so many group games that are practically  pointless? We are having practically no games in july, then 3 senior championship games in August,
4 intermediate championship games in 7 weeks between 31st July and 14th September.  If you get knocked out early or are out of contention for semi finals..... nothing til next march, nearly 7 months. Pitches are much better than they used to be, and yet most are not used after august/ early September until the following march, so I don't think that is an issue. I'm still of the opinion that unless our leagues and championships are sorted properly and not organised to appease a few clubs, we are on the road to nowhere. We have to look beyond the 35/40 guys who are on county squads and create worthwhile competitions for the hundreds of adult players coming in behind who contribute massively to our games and will be the driving force behind any future  development in our county teams.

there's few teams about anywhere who'd have as much of a difference between their leagie form and championship form. While the relegation does appear a complete mess they are a hard one to cater for. They are borderline a junior team leaguewise.

Would ye whist

Not 1 but 2 appeals apparently, what a right mess the administration has made of our premier competition this year

I was chatting to a LD man yesterday at a blitz and he informed me that Kickams are lodging an appeal for a 16th man being on the field during the Declan Lynches equalizer. How this can be proved i don't know - the game wasn't streamed ?

Ghost+Tommy

I heard they've evidence so hence the appeal, teams video games nowadays,so they must be confident, although it is LD they're going against lol

Ghost+Tommy

But what is the other appeal whist

bannside

Heard that Creggan were back out training last night!

What's LDs view? Will they contest there were 16 men on the pitch at the time?

You'de assume though that someone has got video evidence that Creggan now have access to before they would lodge an appeal!

Would ye whist

St Brigid's unhappy that a draw was held on Sunday as opposed to the pre-determined fixtures published earlier this year

They must be confident they are getting a replay if that is the case!

could be or their management team is trying to squeeze another weeks expenses out of the season. sounds like sour grapes tbh.   I can understand the st brigids appeal though waiting until the week after the draw was made rather than before suggests either fear or gamesmanship to put cargin off their stride.

One thing is for sure this 2024 championship, relegation, promotion etc has been messy and the county admins have not covered themselves in glory
