England are due to play a 3rd  place team , so how and when are their opponents  decided?

No it's pre-determined.  It's just you'd need a PhD in quantum physics to work it out.  Eng will play either Holland or the team that finishes 3rd in Belgium's group.  At the moment that could be any of them.  (From the BBC) Data Analysts Nielsen Gracenote have the likelihood of England's opponents as:

61% Netherlands
16% Slovakia
11% Ukraine
8% Romania
4% Belgium

Holland haven't been up to much, but they're a more attacking side than most, so it should be a more open game.  They are always able to throw on big Weghorst in the last 10 if they need a goal.

No PhD in Quantum Physics needed...see the table in this link that spells it out clearly

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UEFA_Euro_2024_knockout_stage

If I had that PhD, I might be able to copy and paste the table, but I can't...can someone do that for us?

It was pre-ordained that if the third place qualifiers were from Groups C, D, E and F, the fixtures would be 1B v 3F, 1C v 3E, 1E v 3D, and 1F v 3C.

Look-Up!

They couldn't have expected a better draw. Clear favourite to reach final if their luck holds.

Jell 0 Biafra

They're on the handy side of it, but I wouldn't be surprised if they lost their next game.  And either Italy or Netherlands (or whoever beats them) would probably have too much for them.

On the plus side, if they did reach the final against, say, Spain, they would get obliterated, so that might be fun.

They've conceded one goal so far even with an unbalanced defence and yes they really haven't played anyone of note to punish that weakness so if they're going to get put out it'll be by one goal to nil or penalties.

Tournament football  ;)  is all about the result not manner of win. Plenty of flair teams over the years never won the tournaments, that Brazilian team of years ago were outstanding, beat by Italy!
None of us are getting out of here alive, so please stop treating yourself like an after thought.

Did you see the heat maps of average positions when they led against Denmark? Harry Kane was at left back moat of the time. Pure negative muck that won't get near the good teams.

Zico, Junior and the boys, the best team ever, but as you say couldn't defend if their life depended on it.

Unfortunately the good teams are on the other side of the draw so they won't have to worry about meeting one to the final.

Of course an average team might put them out, or might not. I wouldn't be putting too much money on the likes of Italy or Holland to do a job. Italy are young and low on quality. They have a tradition of growing into tournaments but I have my doubts with this lot. Holland, again, could do something if they click but again plenty of question marks over them.
Austria look a decent team but are in unfamiliar territory and will have their own pressures to deal with.
So regardless of England's form, they will be clear favourites in their next three games, if they progress that is, and for good reason.

Decent bet in a one off game but can't see them going on a run.
