Romania 3 - 0 Ukraine.  Bit of a surprise?

Bookies had Ukraine at 7/10 this morning, think romania were about 3/1. They were unbeaten in qualifying whereas Ukraine beat Iceland in a play off to get there. Dont know why bookies would price it like that.

A considerable weighting would be based on the spread of bets received, more people betting on Ukraine would thin their price and create a value price for Romania in this instance, in other words you wouldn't have got that price in a Romanian bookies. Actuary and algorithms will have the bookies in the green don't worry - always nice to beat them the odd time though, there's money to be made if you are smart and study the right markets

Interesting. Would such things happen in our regional market, say a bookies in Kerry offering shorter odds than a bookies in Tyrone on a Kerry Win?

Short answer, no

GAA betting is a small niche market

Also the number of independent high street bookies is practically nil, you might get a very slight fluctuation between shops over the course of an hour but they'd have corrected rapidly, it's a tech industry

Ironically GAA betting has also been an achilles heel of sorts to the likes of William Hill and Paddy Power, they don't always have the inside track as it's so parochial, especially the club scene, but county also, like the rise of Louth, I'm sure there was money to be made there, it's whether you're across the emerging trend and end of the day your gut feel/read is correct

Jell 0 Biafra

Bookies are set up to avoid those kind of discrepancies.  I worked in one in the late 80s/early 90s, and for any bet over 50 quid, we had to tell the manager first.  If there were a lot of such bets on a given contestant, HQ would lay the bet off, and drop the price.   And that was before the internet was really a thing.

Gerard O’Neill

France are superb - I heard the commentator mention they are co-favourites to win, I'm assuming he meant along with Germany?

(Don't follow soccer ball that much, only the internationals)

Quite possibly Engerland Gerard tho I haven't checked. Fra Eng Por would have been up there with Germany not overly fancied tho home soil will help and they have have maybe got their act together again, based on first match against admittedly poor opposition

V poor second half from what I heard. They will be good in patches and hard to beat but ultimately wouldn't be where my money would be going.

Mbappes broken nose might make things interesting, ah just hoping for some good games, soft spot for ze Germans

I thought a broken one was a pre-requisite in Armagh 😜
Think he misses next match which is against the dutch, but aye will probably be limited disruption to be fair
