Shocking decision after the season United have had.

Beat the best team since sliced bread to win his second cup in 2 years having won nothing since what 2017 or 18? Work to be done but the injuries, the off field shite with the owners and 2 lads with world class potential in Sancho and Greenwood turning out to be 2 good for nothing c***ts for different reasons. Yes been dire for a lot of the year but give him a couple of good signings (no more Ajax spinning clowns), a fit Martinez and Shaw and he'll go places. 3 of best players are kids and will only get better as well.

Can't see it. I wanted him to do well but even in his first season, there were some horrendous results that nearly overshadowed the league position. It will take a lot more than a fully fit Martinez and Shaw for United to go places. It actually looks like a lot of the players don't want to play for him too. Also, Ten Hag has brought in a few players and most have been flops.

Hardly a ringing endorsement though, a couple of weeks after the cup final, and only after Tuchel turned them down. Will he last next season?

Haven't seen it yet, but Brolly said in his podcast with Dion Fanning that someone had done up a Downfall video on Derry, with one of Hitler's lackeys reassuring him that Harte had won three All Irelands, to which Hitler screamed "Ten Hag could have won All Irelands with that team!" ;D

Cunny Funt

Lots of Journalists and pundits had him sacked already, the credibility of the English media never the best anyway. with the Glazers still making football decisions Ten Hag would have got the same treatment that Van Gaal got in 2016 after winning the FA Cup.

This decision is proof that things are different now under Jim Ratcliffe and co. End of season review clearly didn't ignore the long injury list United had which included a patched up back fours with midfielders filling in the prime reason for such a poor league season and with less injuries the season before United finished 3rd again that would be taken in account in their review.

Lack of what is considered an upgrade replacement would have played a part in their thinking also. If reports are to believed Tuchel ruled himself out and the likes of Poch,Southgate was never suitable.

Whether or not he's ultimately the bloke to turn it around, the owners at some point need to make it clear to the players that they decide who's sticking around.  Not a united fan (or particularly a hater), but I think this is the right decision at this point.

It's hard to justify sacking a man who won more than anyother manager in the PL this past 2 seasons. Yes the league last season was a disaster, I'm just worried that rathcliffe is waiting on Southgate for next summer.

While I think they have reached the right decision, I think it may only be a temporary stay of execution.

The chat I have read and seen is that Southgate is seen as a viable candidate once he is away from England. So unless ETH has a seriously improved start to the league he will be under pressure instantly.

I suppose that is the life of a top level club manager regardless but it will be more intense for ETH this season.

Maroon Manc

Its the right decision, even Tuchel who was the best candidate available hasn't a CV that would you make he'd definitely be a success. Nagelsman was the only manager who'd i'd have liked to have seen take the job but that ship sailed as son as he committed to Germany for few years; Now 6 months down the line that may change.

Clearly no guarantee Ten Hag is going to be a huge success but he's shown that come a big game he's capable of getting his tactics right and when he had his best players available like in his first season results were good, the bad periods that season were when he had too many injuries and too many games and we couldn't cope. Ten Hag knows the club inside out, knows by now which players aren't good enough whilst a new manager may give another chance to some of those we all know are out of their depth.

Big summer ahead, opportunity now to get rid of the deadwood and hopefully buy better players considering all the talk about the recruits behind the scenes; Wilcox and Ashworth appear to know what their doing but I won't be getting carried away just yet.
