Down / Re: Down Club Hurling & Football

Wobbller, on yesterdays performance i don't see anyone increasing thier chances of any senior county appearance in the near future and thats from both sides, although i'm sure Kilcoo won't give a toss about that at the minute.  As for C Laverty i'm still not convinved - yes he did win ball and there will be few in 'Down' that will cope with him (but other inter County defenders will not be that naive) also he was completely isolated up front - it is very easy to win ball when you have 40 yds of space in either direction infront of you for most of the game - i don't believe he scored from play! but with Jerome now involved there will probably be a few Kilcoo lads called up.

Heard at the match yesterday - Jerome Johnston is coming in with James in the Down set-up - any truth in this? Suppose it will even up the sides!!  Congratulations to Kilcoo by the way.

I think its the way he found out about it thats the problem.  Certainly the article in the Irish News sounds a bit like sour grapes but there are individuals within the County set-up who are obviously informing media and other organisations - and it stinks.  The same happened when Carr / Kane were sacked.  Comments were made over on the local thread about 'certain peoples egos' - its nothing to do with ego's.  Carr & Kane were unfairly treated and so was Pete McGrath - not because they didn't get the job but the methods that were used to oust or discount them.  I just think it should have been handled better and in saying that i welcome the new appointments, i think they have their work cut out for them but i wish them luck.

Leo if you are as knowledgeable as you appear to be about the goings on in Down i cannot see how you can condone how the County Board have acted in this whole debacle! I feel they need to be taken to task over the whole episode.   :-\

Daddylonglegs good aul rant there. If your on about ego's then Down have none better than the new manager in place.  You've quite a bad memory also re. P O'R or maybe you weren't old enough when that debacle occured.  Down seem to make quite a habit of making a real mess of hiring and firing and this isn't the first time.  As far as i'm concerned everyone has the right of redress - it was on this very board that news of wee James appointment came to light - now if Pete McGrath found out from the paper and not from the 5 man committee / Co. Board of his failure to be selected - that is wrong! Some-one within the Down Co set-up has been leaking information on a regular basis and should be brought to task - it wouldn't be too hard to find out who!

Great site - was introduced to it some time ago after going to a local townland talk and decided to look up the ancestors.  Think it was great to see what my great grandfathers hand writing was like and the types of occupations family members had.  Clerks / seamtress / scholar - also the last column took me to the fair ' deaf, dumb, idiot or imbecile' i think the heading of the column was ???

Anyone know how to go about gettting some form of Grant Aid for studying a Masters Degree in the South.  Do you apply to your own Education Board or some EU Board.  Also can you extend your student loan for another 2 years?

Most definitely the football Trevor Hill - but since the tread had turned into the relationship status of certain Down footballers it was sonething that came to mind; at least i don't have a personal vendetta against the Down management team or more specifically Ross Carr.

Something i've noticed over the last number of years following Down - there is little or no WAG brigade that was evident in the 90's - maybe something to do with the team not being that successful! I was beginning to think all the lads were single!
