GAA Discussion / Re: Kevin McStay: blind or biased?
August 02, 2009, 11:05:29 PM
There's been a few games where I've thought, what are you on about Mc Stay, he is a bit of a tube. Its ok acting a tube on post/mid match analysis (Brolly or Spillane anyone?), but thats what we tune in for.

Relief!

First off i'm rather bemused at the comments about Tyrone obstructing frees and cynical tactics. Were you at the same game I was at? Kildare's persistant fouling was far more evident. Can't believe Early wasn't shown a yellow card for taking out Mulligan in the first half when he had him beat in front of the goals. Tyrone do this too but its at least punished with a yellow card.

Mc Geeney's tactics were far more evident in the Kildare players running (very close) in front to distract free takers and fouling players to break down attacks. I won't say Tyrone are entirely innocent, I didn't like Cavanagh knocking the ball out of the Kildare player's hands at the end, but jesus talk about pot calling the kettle black.

As for the boos, they were coming from the canal end (mostly) which was full of children, but I didn't like the cheering and flag waving at Tyrone's wides.

And if you want to start talking about missed chances, what about the 3 scoreable frees Tyrone missed in a row. Tyrone should have won by 5. Gormley was my MOTM, he was all over the forwards and as for "dark tactics" ffs Kildare gave as good as they got. What about Justy being dragged and held down before Ricey got blown for overcarrying. Not to sure about SON for MOTM, he had a poor first half, but you can't really argue with 7 points.

...And finally, no harm, lets hope that's Tommy McGuigan's starting place gone, too many bad performances, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who is full of dread everytime he steps up to take a free. Brian' has a great head, and never wastes possession. And what about that catch!

GAA Discussion / Re: UTV & BBC & RTE & TV3

Its definately on Info TV2 (Sky - 167)

LIVE GAA All-Ireland Football Quarter final action from Croke Park: Sunday 2nd 1230-1830 and Monday 3rd 1300-1700

Their site says:
"Essentially, we provide access to broadcast television for organisations who wish to reach specific target audiences, whether they are large or small. We incubate new television propositions for niche market segments, which would struggle to start up on a dedicated channel."

This makes sense, it allows the GAA to be broadcast domestically in the mainland after the demise of Setanta.

Tyrone / Re: Tyrone Club Football and Hurling

It doesn't look too plausible to me at the minute. CN Sports isn't a registered company in the UK or Ireland, although it claims to be registered as "CN Sports LLC" in the US according to the email when you sign up. Searching this company leads you to
C N Sports Llc
755 Gilman Blvd., Ste J
Issaquah, WA 98027
(King County)

Which appears to be a shop called footzone that sells trainers near Seattle! This just gets weirder. IMO a coincidence or CN Sports isn't legit.

On another point, there's an Argentinian Sports Company called CN Sports. I know a fella who does some commentry work for an Argentinian company that has an interest in League of Ireland Soccer. Course this is pure speculation but sure what else are these boards for!

Tyrone were first out of the hat, surely if any team has to wear alternative colours it'll be Kildare?

Kildare will definately test Tyrone more than any other team this season (which isn't saying too much) but they'll face the best defence in Ireland as well as one of the fittest teams and a team completely at ease in their own skin and at home in Croker.

I'm expecting a double header with Cork and Donegal next Saturday with Kerry and the Dubs on their own on the Sunday. And with all the focus on Kerry v Dublin i'm hoping the media will stop hyping Tyrone by saying the same things every week.

Why couldnt they just stream the games for free??  I mean if you can watch HBO and Sky Sports Box office fights from Las Vegas by simply streaming it from a website without anyone stopping you, im sure it wouldnt be that difficult to do for Tyrone Club Football games!!

Quite possibly they are not a charity ;D

Illegal pay per view streams can slip under the rader due to the size and scale of the HBO/Sky broadcasts. You could (assuming you know how to do it) clone the stream on justin.tv as happens with the RTE coverage (which is more reliable than RTEs!), but since they are charging for their coverage they'll easily track down these streams and close them.

I'd be interested in the rights issue. I mean if the GAA wants to spread the local game then maybe they're on board, and you can hardly ask someone to undertake this project for nothing. On the other hand if it turns profitable then the local clubs should get something.

I'm quite bewildered by it all. Who films it? Will it be only 1 camera per game sans commentry? Is it all a load of balls?

I can only see it working as a highlights coverage a few days after the games. Which is fair enough, you need to crawl before you can walk.

Convenient injury for Hanratty there, being completely marked out of the game and falls in a heap.... or am I just being cynical.

Time to get this gobshite off the tele. His comment about the Westmeath V Wicklow match was shocking .

Spillane was very complimentary - sending the DVD to the Americans to use as punishment for ghe detainees in Guantanamo Bay !!!!!!!!   ;D ;D

What other sport do we pay people to be as negative as possible about 90% of the matches he watches

Would it not be in RTE s best interests for their employees to promote the games instead of running them down?

They seem to dose Eamon Dunphy with prozac these days before he goes on the TV. Maybe they could do the same for Spillane, or perhaps RTE could pay for the operation to extract the poker up his hole.

Apologies if it has already been discussed - haven't been following this thread - but what's the story with tickets for tomorrow? I know it's all ticket, but any word on whether they'll be on sale in Clones? Thinking about heading down for this one.

If your stuck there's tickets on Ticketmaster, provided you pay using card and collect at box office. Where this is in Clones I do not know?? There'll be a big crowd with the weather but I still can't see a sell out. Even if there is sure you can always get your mate inside with a ticket to bring out a another stub for you to try the old... "Just coming back in" to the stewart. Worked last year in Omagh for the 1st Down game anyway.  8)

Is there any other McGuyvers out there that'll do almost anything to avoid paying into games? Not saying i'm one, but sure when sure isn't it while craic when you can get away with it!

If anyone is putting the game online, any chance they could do it on www.irishtorrents.com ?? Not bad for GAA, got this years final on there.

I used to have that game somewhere,  god knows where it is now, probably got taped over by Coronation Street. I know for sure I have the 1994 Gaelic Games Video hosted by Jimmy Magee, must wreck out the VHS payer from the attic!

This game has put me in a nostalgic mood... anyone remember the tape they had out that year ('95) with the dodgy song with lyrics such as... "Tyrone are the best team in the country, from every part of the county we will go, as we make our way to dublin in september tyrone will bring the sam maguire home" ... with diddly dee in between most lines.
I can't think about that game without the line from the song "...and with 13 men against the wind in Clones, for the red hand men it was a merry dance!"
The tape had a poem as a B-side, was quite moody, about Ulster teams winning Sam in the early 90s if I recall. Anyone else burn it out in the tape deck of a cavalier???  :D
