Colmans won very easily, Marys were shocking. Shane Nally totally dominated the Midfield, will be interesting to see him square up against Aidan O Shea. I think it is 12 years since a Mayo team won the colleges. Gerards won in 97. Will prob. be Saturday week in Ballinrobe. Sad to see young commins dislocating the collar bone.

Mayo / Re: Mayo Football and Hurling - Discussion pages

Enda Varley scored 0-7 today for UL in semi-final. He has been outstanding for a number of years on a very average Garrymore Senior Team. Will Johnno ever give him  a run. He is a very natural forward who can kick off either foot. In fairness, their is a number of players playing in FBD league games who would not lace his boots.

Interesting case which is very similar

With Pat O Shea resignation today. Jack will be back he has unfinished business with Tyrone. Player power has worked in Kerry to oust Pat.

GAA Discussion / Re: Mayo v Tyrone AI Minor Final

Just a few thoughts on the Mayo Team.

Robert Hennelly - Brilliant year. Kept us in it all day, made a mistake but probably one of our best prospects
David Dolan - Gave his usual steady performance
Kevin Keane - Didnt reach the heights of his earlier perfomances, but stiill has a great chance of progressing to Seniors
John Broderick - Like Dolan steady if unspectacular
Shane McHale - Not his best day could of been replaced earlier
Eoin Reilly - Played a lot of ball, needs to bulk up a bit
Shane Nally - Probably Mayo MOM, ran out of steam in ET two great points could be a new improved Noel Connelly
Ger Cafferty - IMO the best prospect on the team
Ger McDonagh - Very good secondhalf
Cathal Freeman - Not as effective as last week needs to work on his right side but another prospect
Aidan O Se - Great Hands, Skillful for a big man, but needs to track back better
Ray Geraghty - Should not of been taken off was a constant danger unlike many of the forwards
Kieran Charlton - Did not get going at all, his man scored two points should have went sooner
Aidan Walsh - Will be a great minor next year, took pressure frees brilliantly
Alex Corduff - Too sluggish for FF line, tried but should have been replaced

Had a great year following this team, at every match and the improvement was amazing. We just lacked a couple of top class forwards. Some great memories especially Limerick. They played with great spirit and we all should be proud of them. Some faith has been restored in Mayo football.

More bad news on the injury front. Aidan O Shea has a broken thumb. The Captain Shane Nally is on crutches today, suffered ankle ligament damage in Championship game on Monday Night. He is a big doubt for final. Our chances would be badly diminished if these two dont make it.

Well, Tyrone will be red hot favourites with the bookies. I think Mayo are improving with every game. Should be a great final

Just a few thoughts on team yesterday

Robert Hennelly (Breaffy) - Kickouts, very good apart from last one

John Broderick (Claremorris) - Pretty good, bar a couple of minor mistakes
Kevin Keane (Westport) - MOM, Totally blotted out Walsh
David Dolan (Garry) - Another gutsy display, very tenacious

Shane Mc Hale - Best game of year, very good apart from well taken goal
Eoghan O'Reilly (Mitchels) - Steady if not spectacular does job quietly
Shane Nally (Garry - captain) - Loose Marker, but wins a huge amount of possession. Some great catches

Gerard Mc Donagh- Not as effective as Cafferty, kept at it
James Cafferty (Cross) - Brilliant First Half, 3 Great Points, Faded in Second Half

Cathal Freeman (Aghamore) - On the ball very often, needs better shot selection
Aidan O'Shea (Breaffy) - Won a lot of ball in 1st half, tried too much in second
Ray Geraghty (Ballintubber) - Good First half faded in second

Daniel O'Hara (Ballina) - Never got going, outmuscled could have been replaced earlier
Aidan Walsh (Mitchels) - Another Mixed bag, wins a lot of ball
Alex Corduff (Ballina) - Not a Corner Forward, if not Midfielder then dont play him

Hope we did not kick it away yesterday, defensively brilliant, so much possession in 1st half. Forwards again our achillees heel. Two corner forwards were poor yesterday, Next Saturday another day, would be worried about O Donoghue who came on late yesterday, looks like a class act.

Just a few thoughts on team yesterday

Robert Hennelly (Breaffy) - Great save at the end, steady as always

John Broderick (Claremorris) - Out muscled but kept trying
Kevin Keane (Westport) - On Monaghans best player, struggled at times
David Dolan (Garry) - MOM How could he not make Colmans team

Cathal Freeman (Aghamore) - Kicked two crucial scores when moved to forwards
Eoghan O'Reilly (Mitchels) - Injured early on
Shane Nally (Garry - captain) - Best game so far won a lot of kickouts

Alex Corduff (Ballina) - Big Lad, but needs to use strength more
James Cafferty (Cross) - Good going forward

Dean Gavin (Ballintubber) - Never got going today
Aidan O'Shea (Breaffy) - Wasted at FF, won a lot of ball when moved MF
David Drake (Ballagh) - Won a lot of breaks

Daniel O'Hara (Ballina) - Took goal very well
Aidan Walsh (Mitchels) - Mixed day
Ray Geraghty (Ballintubber) - Showed for ball all day, needs more scores

Overall a good win, backs were excellent hunted in packs, MF never got going until O Shea went out. Forwards were disappointing, missed easy chances with Freeman showing the way when moved forward.Definetly, a good team spirit might not be the most talented bunch but getting the most out of what they got
