I think if nothing was given for the 2nd red card and a yellow instead of the 3rd red card no one would have batted an eyelid.

But they were.

A slap is a slap and he did it right in front of the ref.

I assume the third was the strength of the contact as opposed to dogso

Is a game without physical contact  really the game we want to see? ie by  making physical contact such a risky undertaking, that it becomes all but removed?

I can only speak for myself here. And the answer is no.

There is a big difference between saying the game is gone soft and saying the referee should ignore a slap thrown 10 feet in front of him...
