Quote from: armaghniac on July 01, 2026, 08:46:49 PMPaedophile Jeffrey Donaldson is being held in the protection wing with those most at risk of being attacked in Gen Pop. That is: bent cops, police informers and paedophiles. With typical dark humour, the prisoners call the unit "peelers, squealers and feelers".
Paedophile Jeffrey Donaldson could be in prison until his late 70s. It's going to be a long stay for him given the respect prisoners have for paedophiles.

Again this isn't entirely accurate. Paedophiles are ordinarily held in the perhaps inappropriately named bush house. The wing Donaldson is on is the Close Supervision or Hospital wing. Whilst it is occasionally used for risk management it is primarily used to monitor those at risk to themselves or requiring significant medical attention. I've never heard that nickname applied to it.

Also what age is he now?

Old enough to know better, or 63, in old money.

Quote from: imtommygunn on July 02, 2026, 02:02:42 PMYeah your man Shannon the league leader in expense claims too is very quiet...

That's because he's as dumb as fĂșck.

Is that not the usual entry level qualification for any unionist politician? Plus, in Shannon's case, the ability to blub,  copiously, every time he opens his fecking mouth.
Nah, Jim is particularly thick even by DUP councillor standards, let alone MP's.

DUP Councillors are far from thick. They always exhibit a high degree of cunning & ingenuity, when it comes to filling in the ould expenses forms.

Exactly. Don't be fooled. They play to the gallows a lot. Look at an example of Givan's trip to Israel. Either he's incredibly naive and didn't read the room or he did it fully intentionally to stir the pot and whip up his own voters. I know which one my own money is on and there are many stunts like it that they pull.

Yeah highly unlikely he will be in prison in his 70's let alone his late 70's

What sort of sentence is Donaldson likely to get ?

imtommygunn

Someone said to me it could be as little as 2-3 years though I wouldn't know tbh.

Allison Morris was talking to ones and seemed to think it will be 8 to 10. He has a clean character before now (yes I know). But the fact he fought it will really go against him.
Also he will be sentenced by what the sentence was at the time the crime was committed, not now.

No chance. Not for 18 charges, 1 of which was rape and a not guilty plea fought tooth and nail to ensure the 2 women had to testify. Would expect/hope it to be closer to 10.

Other cases for abuse  seem to be 2-4 years.  Sexual abuse is one thing , child rape  totally another.

I'd imagine at least  8 years.

I don't know enough about the exact facts and timeline to predict it exactly.

It's also a highly complicated sentencing exercise. You have to apply today's standards to the guidance in place at the time of the offending then consider if that's acceptable by today's standard all while be capped at the maximum sentence available at any stage between the commission of the offence and today.

Also if any of the offences occurred after 1st April 2009 there's different types of sentences will have to be imposed.

If they didn't then he won't have to worry about being assessed as dangerous or having to serve a licence period. He will be entitled to 50% remission.

Also contesting the matter is not an aggravating feature. Credit is afforded if you don't buy you aren't punished for contesting.

With that said if there was a gun to my head I'd say 6-7 years meaning 3 to 3.5 years in custody but without knowing exact details that's speculation on my part and a range of 4-10 is possible (again with only have been served in custody)

Interesting David.

What's the likelihood of appeal? Have read that he may have a case that the joint trial with the wife led to prejudicial evidence against him from her side of the house.

Jim Wells interviewed in this podcast says that the DUP needs a full investigation and that if it does it will find out something worse. He says it looks bleak for the party.

He is. He has a vested interest in the DUP getting roasted.
