Those 4 missing as well as Warnock, Glass & Ethan. Emmett Bradley & Tallon only seemed to come on going by Twitter. Not sure what the story with Conlann Bradley & Tiernan Flanagan this year but looks like Glen were missing up to 11 potential starters and I could easily be forgetting others.
Yes I would put it up around 10/11 missing, I'd say a reserve team out to be honest.

Doesn't take away from the fact that Lavey were very impressive and also missing a few expected starters. Impossible to know were Glen are.

Having watched Mc Faul 4 times this season he's a complete liability, always played on the edge we know but starting to slip over it alot more often. He targets opposition county men perhaps trying to prove a point.

Who the lad plays No.11 for Glenullin? Hes about the fastest player i seen in the league this year, goes direct and takes his man on ever time.

Quote from: Wildweasel74 on June 28, 2026, 02:32:42 AMForwards,we lack bite and heart, thats the biggest problem, look at Monaghan and Tyrone, show plenty of heart, and that take u a fair way, wouldnt beat Kerry but u be competive. On forwards, theres hardly a player who can kick 2 pters from play in the Division 1, on a steady basis or a forward who can take a man on and beat him with sheer pace.

Not sure if anyone beats Kerry but to do so you need to hit at least 25 points to have a chance. I don't think we have that type of scoring in us. Tyrone went score for score with them and the new rules encourage teams to go for it. Gone are the days where you can try and hold a team to 13 odd points and win a big game in Croke park.

I felt that Cork played similar to what we would have done and tried to run everything and they looked v one dimensional. To win in Croke park you need to mix it up, kick when it's on and go through the hands when it slows down. Until Derry get the right balance in how we play, I don't think we can really threaten the top teams in Croker. A lot of it comes down to whether we have the players, but the approach and tactics we employ also needs to evolve.

The one time we really threatened to get to an all Ireland final we absolutely went for it against Kerry in the semi final in 2023. Some might argue we peaked that year. But that game was one we should have won and we were very unlucky. The new rules might not be the worst thing for us, if we would just take the shackles off.

Surely young Sargeant will be an All Star. McGuigan has kicked the lights out for years, had a bad year but will be back. Murray is unpredictable which is something every attack needs. I think we still have the guts of a brilliant team. McEvoy, Forbes, Murray, Sargeant and Higgins are all very young and even Glass, Clucky, E. Doherty, McGuigan and McGrogan are under 30.

Louth vs Mayo in the semi final meaning had we beaten Meath we would have had Mayo in Castlebar, Cork and then Louth to reach an All Ireland final. What a missed chance.

No chance we beat any of those. Given the success of Devlin, the "failure by Tally" abd the expulsion of Harte, is the current Derry squad unmanageable at present?

marty34

I'd have stuck with Tally to be honest.

Was the manager merry-go-round player driven?

Exactly

Gallagher/Meenagh/Harte/Tally/Meenagh

There's a common denominator here ( not in this manager list )

Wildweasel74

Worryingly look where Devlin ended up, but it was he pushing the Goalkeeper the whole way up the field in 2024 cost us so bad

Let me guess, is it a defender who cost Derry an all Ireland underage title?

I don't think its one individual, theres a group of "senior" players who are dictating.

Some of these players haven't delivered and are fast becoming a starting 15 headache.

Meenagh is a good manager, bar Barrett and Boyle his backroom could do with a shake. We need coaches who have proven to have delivered at the top level. Not someone who was player and makes loads of noise.

Name one county/club team where there is not a group of senior players who strongly influence things?
I do agree though that some of our more established players have not delivered this year - I wouldn't make excuses for them, but I would say it takes a lot of elements to be right for the results to follow, injuries, fitness, management, consistent panel, commitment, referees etc. It's not as straightforward as you are suggesting.

I also agree that the backroom team needs refreshed. I think we need a backroom team that brings new thinking to Meenagh, rather than players who have played under him who will reinforce his same ideas.

I know every county is the same but I suppose I its the calibre of person who is delivering the message.
You can't be talking like you are driving the process forward and then deliver sub standard performances or a more regular basis.

Our leadership group as it stands would/should only consist of Rogers, Conor Mc Closkey and Conor Doc. I'm not saying they were great every game but consistently they turn up for Derry and are looked to for leadership, the remainder need to sort themselves.

Our failings are absolutely nothing to do with ability, the talent and age profile is as good as anyone. The ruthless, arrogant aggression is what we've lost.
Derry are a better team than Louth, Mayo, Meath, Cork, Monaghan, Westmeath.

What are the chances of a shake up in the backroom team

Could deets be tempeted?
