As per usual, yesterday's final was between two Div 1 teams.

If Tyrone want to be at the top table, then they can't have a laboured Div 2 campaign again in 2027. Or they have to defy the statistics by even getting to a final from Div 2.

DaleCooper

Embarassing for Tyrone to be in Division 2 with the insane resources at our disposal. Big questions need answering I know several "orbiters" and I worry are they the best or just loyal Tyrone men.

Big effort to win promotion then forget about Ulster, have a rest to have a tilt at Sam.

"insane resources"... catch yourself on

We dont have a specialist man marker in our full back line
We dont have a target man full forward who can win 50/50 ball
We dont have a half forward who can help the midfield and fetch clean kick outs, nor the physicality to dominate break ball.
We dont have a full forward in the county with the strength, workrate & combined end product of RO'D, or just the sheer class of Con O'Callaghan or David Clifford
We are heavily reliant now on a 35 year old Goalkeeper, the drop off to second choice keeper is very significant.

We do have a mighty crop of 18-22 year olds, but in reality most of them are not ready yet.

It takes time and there are no guarantees.

Majority of what you listed is player development. Teams develop these types of players through s&c, training and tactics. Only thing you cant do is grow height. Look at mcshane, had all the physical attributes you want but took him working with steve oneill to develop him into the great player he was in 2020 and 2021.

Game plan is massive depending on type of players you have. Tyrone have had fast skillful forwards for years but would never give them what they needed which was early fast ball into FF.

Was talking about Garvaghy and the money spent.

After six hugely successful years, Gerard Donnelly has stepped down from his role as Tyrone Minor Football Manager.

Gerard leaves behind an outstanding record, having guided Tyrone to four Ulster Minor Football Championship titles, three All-Ireland Final appearances and, most memorably, All-Ireland Championship success in 2025.

Beyond the silverware, Gerard has played an important role in the development of a generation of young Tyrone footballers, helping prepare players to progress through the county pathway while representing their clubs and communities with distinction on the national stage.

His six years in charge have been marked by tremendous commitment, leadership and consistency, and we are extremely grateful for the time and energy he has given to Tyrone football.

We thank Gerard, his management teams and backroom personnel for an outstanding contribution over the past six years and wish him every success in the future.

Gerard Donnelly, an absolute class act.

tiempo

Has come a long way since getting Stewartwtown into Ulster minor and crowing that Dan Lowe was overlooked for Tyrone minors, always liked him for that, to the point, no malice

Aaron Boone

Best of luck to GD. Hope he's not lost to the inner Tyrone hierarchy when it comes to future manager discussions.

He guided the minors over the line for the first time in 15 years in 2025, but will have regrets over the 2 final losses. He has certainly done his bit.

Who's next in line for that job? Plenty of coaches involved in those development teams up in Garvaghy.

Gerard probably lined up for the U20s when Paul Devlin steps down. An O'Neill Cup with Carmen in the meantime while he waits for that job.

Is Donnelly currently with Carrickmore?

Is that his own club?

I'm not sure if he is the main man there but I think he is involved. Home club is Stewartstown but he has been living up in Carrickmore direction for a long time now so Carmen probably his '2nd' club at this stage.

Not a shock to see Carrickmore's turn of form this year compared to last year with Donnelly's involvement, Looks a different animal than the team that was close to the drop zone this time last year

Tyrone GAA is delighted to announce the appointments of Diarmaid McNulty as Tyrone Minor Football Manager and Paul O'Grady as Tyrone U20 Hurling Manager.

These appointments are for an initial three-year term and remain subject to formal approval by the County Committee at its meeting on Tuesday, 1 September.

Tyrone GAA extends its best wishes to both management teams as they prepare to lead their respective squads over the coming seasons.

Don't know if I see Devlin stepping down anytime soon - alot of security within that u20s role which he seems to have made a name for his own - if he was to leave would only be for the senior job I'd say, and I think MOR is truly building something there. Fair play to Donnelly all the same could push on at senior club football now
