Listen, this league doesn't lie
The 2 worst teams this year play off for a place in div1/2

Although, in a different season, it could easily have been the 4 teams above them playing off.
Hence, structure needs looking at it
1A and 1B has to be the way to go
I think 2 and 3 is OK the way it is.

But, for now, it is what it is.

But it is what it is now.

I was looking at the league table recently and thinking you would have a 1a and 1b there that should be reasonably competitive based on exact finishing positions this year.

Might not be the top 8 teams in championship mode (though maybe not far off) as the league season presents different challenges for different clubs e.g. county commitments, dual commitments etc.

But the league table is a fair reflection of what the league season looks like for all.

Cargin 5/2
Dunloy 3/1
Creggan 4/1
Portglenone 9/2
St Brigids 9/2
Aghagallon 8/1
Lamh Dhearg 11/1
St Galls 12/1
O Donovan Rossa 14/1
St Johns 33/1
All Saints 40/1
Tir Na Nog 66/1
Sarsfields 100/1
Con Magees Glenravel 100/1
Moneyglass 150/1
St Pauls 150/1

As they always say, bookies are rarely wrong
Only one they struggled with was st galls/rossa which i think is a more and 2 point betting swing
Would have SG above Ld imo

Portglenone is where the value is there. Worth £100 at that price.

bannside

Definitely not value. For that to work out....

4/6 to get out of a tough group with LD and Aghagallon sharing similar aspirations.

1/1 in a tough QF
1/1 in a tough semi
1/1 in a final

A £1 accum would be 12/1. So definitely not value.

Wide wide open this year.

Lookoning at league form... and yes it is only one piece of the puzzle. Championship is a different animal altogether.

Creggan at 4/1 will catch plenty of eyes based on how they've been going, Portglenone at 9/2 looks about right to me rather than value, they'll need to prove they can string big championship performances together.

The one that stands out as a bit of value is St Gall's at 12/1. If they get a favourable draw and keep everyone fit, they're capable of making a serious run. At those odds, they're probably the best each-way option on the board.

Is their a tally anywhere if which team has been most effective with 2 pt efforts during the league, with what we've been watching st county level that would seem to be the difference maker.

I agree having a 2pt shooter is becoming a must the way the games are going

Having seen that game yesterday think there was 8 kicked between 2 people

£100 on Matties army means you'll lose £100 😜

Hard ground will hopefully suit fast paced playing styles (if this weather keeps up) equally a big chance of injuries as some
Pitches like concrete!

Should of had 4 teams relegated from Div 1 yesterday. Only way to keep the quality better.

Now we are left with at least 3 teams still participating in Div 1 that are dragging down the rest.  Need it sorted out but unfortunately only the teams who are safe will vote against current status. The majority will continue voting for this joke as it keeps them in Div 1

SaffronSports

I heard there was some motion in place to reduce the size of div 1 but has to wait a year as it came in too late for this season?

AntrimRealist

I wonder if the county manager has any influence on league structures - the current setup suits in some ways as playing without county players in a 16 team league makes it easier to pick up points.  With a smaller league there would likely be pushback from clubs to play county players in their league games (or at least have the choice).

bannside

No, he has zero influence on this.

Most clubs dont care too much about the league (unless every game is a dogfight for points to avoid relegation) and unless we go very deep into Tailteean Cup territory will have all their players back well ahead of cship. A progressive club will see having three or four players on county panel as an opportunity to develop three or four more players on their senior panel.
