I'd find it hard to believe that someone from within the GAA is aiding and abetting with the AFL in scouting for talents.

After Dermot McNicholls admission today in the irish news that he is working as a scout for the AFL agent Ricky Nixon, what do you think now?? I would say he is only one of several men casting an eye over our young talent to make a few quid for themselves!!!

From wikipedia...

Inter-county career

McNicholl was known as one of Derry's best ever underage players. He played Minor football for Derry for four years from 1980 (when he was 14) to 1983. He won three Ulster Minor Football Championships (1980, 1981 and 1983) and played in All-Ireland Minor Championship finals in those years, winning in 1983, where he was captain.[1] He also won three Ulster Under-21 Football Championships in 1983, 1985 and 1986 and was runner-up in 1983 and 1985 in the All-Ireland Under-21 Championships.

McNicholl made his Senior debut against Louth in the National League in October, 1983, while still a Minor.[2] He won an All Star for his performances in the 1984 Championship, while still at school.

He won an Ulster Senior Championship in 1987, but was badly affected by injury in the All-Ireland semi-final defeat to Meath. He missed the 1989 and 1990 campaigns due to being in Australia playing professional Australian rules. He was part of Derry's National League winning team in 1992. McNicholl added a second Ulster Senior Championship medal in 1993, before going on to win the 1993 All-Ireland Championship after a semi-final victory over Dublin and final defeat of Cork. Injury prevented him from starting these two games, but came on as a substitute in both.

He won a further two National League medals in 1995 and 1996. He was plagued by injury in the latter years of his career, often preventing him from starting matches and was forced to retire soon after.

Poor example of what? He may not be the best coach in the world but he has had some success with St. Pat's Maghera and to question his playing career well that is just stupidity. How about you get your facts straight final whistle before you got slagging people off without foundation for it!

Final Whistle

quick example. mcrory cup qf replay held in donaghmore, year 2000. Armagh player wins penalty. mcnicholl's reaction is to stand behind the goals and wave his hands furiously in an attempt to distract the 17, yeas 17 year old place kicker. The referee proceeds to tell the "great" mcnicholl to clear off from behind the goals. McNicholls reaction was to jump the perimeter fence so he can continue to stand behinmd the goals and wave in a fruitless attempt to distract the young brian mallon!!
Hardly a good role model is he????

Thats the problem with wiklipedia, any jackass can pump your reputation up!!!

So you give one incident where he acted stupidly and 1. he's a poor example to people who ever watched him play (when in reality he was probably the most talented underage player of his generation) 2. he's a poor example to anyone who ever played under him (EVERYONE EVER who ever played under him think he is a poor example becasue of one small incident you are referring to)

Yeah that's a sensible post of yours alright!

Have a look at the topic lads and bicker elsewhere ;)

Final Whistle

example 2- mcnocholl's maghera team enter the 2000 mcrory as firm favourites. as the tournament was running behind, (may of been due to foot and mouth, not entirely sure) directions were issued to play extra time in said qf in the case of a draw. mcnicholls actions when said game finished all square was to remonstrate with the match officials and take his players off the field refusing to start the extra time. these incidents left me with a negative opinion of the man, correctly or in correctly.

taking the silver pieces of the aussies to inform them of the up and coming talent is hardly anything to be proud of either!!!
