A wee bit off topic here, but was surprised to see on the RTE predictions site that our rugger presenter Tom Mc Gurk was a former Brockagh boy !!

Anyone here have any recollection of him playing Gaa ??

Tom McGurk

Obviously now well-known for the oval ball, but it all began behind the hedges in Tyrone changing into size 12s to play midfield for Brockagh Robert Emmets. The ball was really leather then, the full-back wore a cloth cap and everyone feared the local Maghery team with nine McGeary brothers and six McGeary cousins on the team. (Not to mention Mrs McGeary on the sideline.)

Back in those dark days in the North, the GAA was the purgatorial gates through which we watched the souls in heaven down in the 'Free State'.

Every September back then, it was the visiting crowd in the kitchen around the Aga, mother's sandwiches, apple tarts, gallons of tea, the dog put out and Mícheál Ó H on the steam radio in the corner.

I can still see the scene now, hanging forever on the walls of memory, like some Holbein glimmering in the shadows. Thank you GAA.

SFC winners for 2007 & SHC winners for 2007: Tyrone and Waterford, of course.

Tom McGurk is a presenter on RTÉ Radio and a regular presenter of RTÉ Television's rugby coverage.

how the hell did dara o shea get an all star before sean cavanagh ??? - ive seen sc get allstars when he didnt deserve one, but o shea was near being dropped for AI final & was poor in club championship

O'Sé was the difference in the Monaghan game (though he should have been blown for a wild swing with his boot in the dying seconds before Kerry pulled even).
Carlsberg don't do Gombeenocracies, but by jaysus if they did...

Conor Gormley can count himself very unlucky - if he played for Dublin he would have got an all star and probably player of the year - I don't think Cavanagh was consistent enough this year to get one.

Coalisland, bounced back from their Tyrone  final defeat   in emphatic fashion tonight  , by defeating Cookstown , 8.5 to 0.10, in the league underfloodlights at the Mid Ulster sports arena, with John Kerlin the ref.

Had to happen, those ghosts of the Tír Eoghain final had to be exorcised, and soon... more's the pity for Cookstown!

8-05 is some scoring especially when half the Coalisland team was in the bot the night before :)

Judging by that Fermanagh map Trillick must be some size of a parish if Coa is in it.

Anywhere online lads that would have a history of the Windmill, or even a book on sale anywhere? Always had an interest in them for some reason or another. Is it true that when they folded their catchment area was 'ceded' to Ógra Colmcille (ie Drummullan...a Derry club!!) and not Ardboe? So technically if you're from the Windmill you should be playing for Ógra?

Interesting Map of all tyrone parishes ...
For parishes (e.g.Kilskeery - trillick)  that cross country boundaries, it only shows the townlands within the county ...

I've heard before that part of Ardboe parish is in Derry, but I can't think whereabouts that part is. Anyone know?
