Summary Clonoe haven't got the quality to win a championship , this year things fell right for them in the championship , beating  a weak Trillick side by 2 points , then meeting a Carmen side that could consider themselves very unlucky they had to peak for Errigal game and should have beaten Clonoe and then after replay Clonoe go through. Then in the semi final they meet Derrylaughan team who are more an intermediate team than a senior side and then they are in the final. They looked laboured and tired yesterday and in all seriousness Dromore should have beaten them out the park only for 2 lucky goals.Clonoe went all out for the league and are a very workman like side but in no way a quality side and it is interesting that their 3 losses in the league were to Errigal ,Carmen and Dromore .This would confirm to me they are a top 5 side but no way top 3.

Very well put i would have to agree with you on that, shows the standard in club football in tyrone is not all that great

dromore "top side in tyrone over the last decade".  and why would this be tyronehead?

tyronehead

Dromore top side in last decade based upon facts. They have been in 4 out of the last 5 finals winning 3 and losing one by a point after extra time.
Carrickmore for example have won 2 out of the last 10 .Carmen in the last 5 years have reached one final losing it to Coalisland.
Overall in the last 10 years Dromore have won most titles too !!!!

skeog

could someone enlighten me on damien cassidys headgear that he wore yesterday was he making sure his team could pick him out in the gloom

Tyrone 86 as a matter of fact Errigal were not , if you want to deal in facts Errigal have 2 championships in the last 11 years .
Dealing with facts again Errigal have not been in a senior football championship final in the last 5 years.
Dromore are the benchmark.

Mea culpa, Carmen were the top team over the last decade until yesterday, I got the 2000 and 2001 finals mixed up. The point I was trying to make is that these things are very subjective. The last 5 years have been Dromore's time and full credit to them. These things come and go. Errigal and Carmen had their time from the mid 90's to the mid 00's, Trillick and Ardboe had their's before that and, in the next 5 years, the smart money would be on Coalisland adding another couple of O'Neill Cups to the total.

When talking about the relevant strength of club sides using the last 5 years is a very good guide.
Whether Carmen had periods of dominance or Errigal had periods of dominance the facts are now the standards of these clubs have fallen back and one wonders why a once dominant club like Carmen is now in the doldrums and a new club like Errigal couldn't fulfil its early promise only those involved can answer.
Only Carmen people know what is going on , for example how much has been paid out to coaches or managers these last 5 years ?Maybe zero ,I don't know but it would be interesting to know from those close what has happened to a once strong championship club?

When Ricey and McCullagh go there's a chance Dromore will be in the same boat. Both Carmen and Errigal have a number of exceptional footballers still playing that have won Championship medals but when players like Ronan McGarrirty, Brian Gormley and Seamie McCallan or the Canavan's and Eoin Gormley retired from Senior Football they weren't the same teams without them - it's almost impossible to replace players of that calibre in a couple of years. Both teams have been perennial contenders since though and that's as important as anything else when it comes to winning championships - there haven't been many sides that come from nowhere to win one.

Why does Eoin McCusker not play for Tyrone?

I would say its because he loves his club and the current county management have little regard for the senior clubs.

Wee Roddy

Before I get any PMS about being defensive of my club, let me say first of all, congradulation to Dromore and commiserations to Clonoe. I didnt brave the conditions but I believe it was entertaining, with perhaps the best team just shading it.
However why do people who are nuetrals take so much delight on the so called fall of Carrickmore and Errigal. This years Tyrone championship was probably the closest in years with both semifinals going to the wire and needing replays. How is there a huge gap between anyone in the top six. No one will dominate football like Errigal and Carmen did for the best part of 12 or 13 years again.
In the past 2 years Carrickmore have been beaten in a final and lost a semi by a point.....hardly a ruined club!!

I think you made bit of mistake here, Roddy. Both semi finals were mis-matches resulting in landslide victories for Clonoe and Dromore. Did Carrickmore not lose a quarter final this year?
