What is the issue with it?
I think it is fair enough that a lad should be 17 at least before he can play at adult level.
I can only please one person per day. Today is not your day. Tomorrow doesn't look good either

The Bearded One

Is the rule: A player cannot be eligible for juvenile football in the same year.
So for example, a player turns 16 on 01/01/2016 can't play adult football in 2016 as they are still a juvenile.

In some clubs there is an attitude that they must get these young lads through to at least reserve level as soon as the are allowed rather than as soon as they are ready, there is a huge difference!
It is what it is. Presumably.

Or is it not the case that they need these young lads to play reserves to make up their numbers?

Exactly. We struggled to field reserve last year due to one reason or another (Mostly numbers), but want to give it a better lash next year. However we're not allowed to play our 2 x minors nor our senior nor the 'old' 16 year olds. We're already going to have try and persuade a few retirees to come back out!

Maybe we should be playing more games, and training less. Just an idea.

We have already discussed the situation regarding the County minors and playing Club Senior Football, can anyone on this board clarify the situation regarding 17 year olds playing senior football? To my memory there was a proposal to introduce that rule this year. Very surprised smaller clubs have not tried to object to this!

17 year olds can no longer play adult football/hurling for their club.

Beginning next year a player must have reached his 18th year before he can now play adult football/hurling.

I think you're wrong, they can't play until they turn 17. It was the case that if you were 16 you could play as long as you weren't eligible for under 16 in the same calendar year. Either way it's a load of bollicks.

Sorry, yes you are correct.

I suppose OR is in the unusual position of being a Junior Club with several County players. I'm certain that Cathal, Ryan and Conall would be big losses for any Clubs but even more so for 'smaller' Clubs.

He was manager of Clontibret last season when they won the Monaghan senior championship beating a very fancied Scotstown team, care to explain how you view him as yesterdays man? I think its a very good appointment.
