Milltown Row2

If we are looking at modern day footballers as role models or people to look up to then we are fucked!

They are in the business of making money and this skill that they have got or worked very hard on is providing them a lucrative lifestyle for their family..

Nearly everyone has a price and I wouldn't say his thoughts on the lgbtq has changed, just his new employers

How many clubs are part owned or owned by Saudis, are the public or lgbtq groups making as much fuss?

His views were honorable and right, but this witch hunt will make sure no other footballers will come out and make a stand in fear of being offered generational life changing money!
None of us are getting out of here alive, so please stop treating yourself like an after thought. Ea

Disappointed in Jordan, thought he was better than this. Not that he's gone to Saudi per se but by the looks of it he never really believed in what he was saying when he gave his views on LGBT issues (the modern day curse of someone feeling they need to be seen to say the right thing). And now trying to spin things in that interview.  He needs to shut up at this point.

I'm sure he genuinely believes in equality and those LBGTQ causes and felt he was doing good when promoting them. But in the competing interests in his life, when it came down to it, the obscene money on offer to set up his family for generations won out.

We're all hypocrites when it comes down to it. Principles and real life or even immediate convenience don't always align.

How many boycotted the Qatar WC in the end?

How many people go work in the Middle East or other countries for the money, even if they're personally appalled by the moral codes and laws there?

He doesn't seem as endowed in the smarts as he is in football skills. Vera Pauw also made a big mistake talking to the Athletic.

Perhaps he did believe in those LBGTQ issues but the reality is that it suited his brand and imagery at the time to hitch his wagon to that cause. Now that he has been offered huge sums to play for a regime with an appalling human rights record, those beliefs have been superseded by the money on offer. Lets call a spade a spade he went for the money which is fine, the majority of people (but not all) would have their heads turned by that. But the biggest issue is him doing that interview claiming that it wasn't about the money and that he wanted to grow the game in Saudi Arabia!! By doing that he is just insulting peoples intelligence. He claimed he didn't feel wanted by his club yet he is still playing international football where he will still be sitting on the bench. If he had either said nothing or said that the money was too good to refuse it would have all been forgotten in time but he has shown he is only interested in imagery, PR and hard cash. I think he mustn't be the sharpest tool in the box.

Sadly its becoming all too common across professional sport where everything is transactional and it is getting progressively worse with each passing year. This is only the latest example in another while it will be someone else.

No argument with that.

Car crash interview. It's has went down badly, especially the money stuff. Like really what other reason is there to go to the Camel league? You'd have more respect for him if he just came out and told the truth "the money is too good to turndown". No player is joining for 1 or 2 years so they can win the Jamal Khashoggi memorial cup.

totally agree
he spectularly messsed up
the bit about Klopp  or club not wanting him was poor given that he wanted a commitment that he was being played.

Bit like most villages of a Sunday here.
