The Connaught Telegraph has learned that the management team declined the offer to resign which had been made on a number of occasions since the defeat to Donegal in the final group match of the All-Ireland FC series.

This forced the committee members into a position where it could not let the matter drag on indefinitely in their pursuit of a new manager.

It is obvious the executive committee has a clear strategy in mind and an appointment could be made sooner than expected in order to avoid ongoing speculation.
Surely they won't go to Horan for a third time?

Ladbrokes they are quoting, when it comes to GAA betting I would stick to Boyle Sports or Paddy Power.

Quote from: galwayman on June 26, 2025, 04:31:48 PMSurely they won't go to Horan for a third time?

Since I posted up the odds Horan has now dropped to 5/1 and Austin O'Malley has become favourtie at 11/8.  Gives an idea where the punters money is going?
Is the ref going to finally blow his whistle?... No, he's going to blow his nose

Cortoon

No class shown here by Mayo. McStay was right not to give in to them by resigning.

He gave it a go but didn't seem to be able to sustain any upward momentum with Antrim. Similar to his 6 years with Meath in a way.

I was hoping for him and Antrim that he could improve things and thought a Tailteann Cup would be in reach during his term. They did run us close in 2023. Hopefully he's put some good foundations and standards in for the future.

What do Antrim folks think of his term?
It won't be the next manager but the one after that Meath will become competitive again - MO'D 2016

Regardless of management's refusal to accept the inevitable surely a statement along the lines of 'we have decided not to avail of the 4th year of current management team but would like to thank etc etc etc' would be much more appropriate.  Whoever penned and gave go ahead of statement to go out need a course in cop on.

Everyone in Mayo knew McStay & Co were finished months ago. A good guy but it wasn't working out.

SouthDublinBro

Doesn't matter who is their manager. We all know they won't be winning Sam.

The target of winning Sam has been replaced with trying to at least reach the last 8 of the championship.  Last 12 exit last year and out of this years championship at the group stage.

McStay should have done the decent thing and resigned.
No point in hanging around when you're not wanted .
Also he had a fair crack of the whip, after the loss to Cavan there was no way back for him.

He should have been given the opportunity to. The man has been unwell. Is a long time to the league starts again..

The Boy Wonder

It was on the cards that Mayo would be looking for a new management team.

However the treatment of Kevin McStay does not look at all good to outsiders.

As a player, as a Sunday Game pundit and as a manager of Mayo he had countrywide respect.

All the best to Kevin for the future - though success was elusive he did his county proud.

Apparently he was given the opportunity several times and refused to take it.
No idea if that's the case, but would go some way to explaining the wording.
"Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall."

Sounded like an exasperated Board having lost patience alright.
Unless it's damage limitation spin seeing the reaction?

After three years in charge Davy Burke has stepped down as Roscommon manager.

Roscommon chairman statement.

"Davy Burke has this evening informed me of his decision to step down as our senior football team manager after 3 years. I have witnessed first hand the effort, dedication and commitment Davy has put in since his appointment in October 2022.
I want to thank Davy most sincerely for everything he has done for Roscommon GAA. We have had highs and lows over the 3 years but Davy's ambitions and goals for our players, supporters and our County was always to be the very best we could possibly be.
I want to thank all our backroom team for their work over the last 3 years.
Finally I want to wish Davy, Shauna, Shea and little Conn the very very best in the future and I wish them health, happiness and success on and off the pitch. It was a pleasure to work with Davy and he will always be welcome in Roscommon."

Roscommon GAA will now begin the process of appointing a new senior football manager.
Is the ref going to finally blow his whistle?... No, he's going to blow his nose

Rossfan

The right thing to do as it wasn't working out this season.
Best wishes to Davy and the rest of the backroom.
We'd a few good days... Almost making League Final 2023,
Castlebar 2023, only team Dublin didn't beat in the 2023 Championship, Omagh last year.
Some not so good.
Wheels weren't turning smoothly on the wagon this year.
