With no McKernan, what's the best starting 15 for Saturday?

Below is how I'd line them out, but I'd be interested to see other iterations:

 1. N. Morgan

 2. P. Hampsey

 3. P. Teague

 4. C. Quinn

 5. N. Devlin

 6. R. Brennan

 7. K. McGeary

 8. B. Kennedy

 9. C. Kilpatrick

10. S. O'Donnell

11. P. Harte

12. C. Daly

13. Dazzler

14. M. Donnelly

15. D. Canavan

I'm unsure about Seanie in that No. 10 jersey—no one else has really put their hand up, but throwing McElholm in might not suit this game. He has all the quality for it, but the Dubs would likely target him early, and he might be better sprung off the bench.

Quote from: omagh_gael on June 24, 2025, 09:42:50 PMAssuming he's talking about similar physical profile. Paul Donaghy would be a serious addition to the team in the current rules. Long, early ball with Darragh and Darren playing off him and Eoin Mc elholm playing #11.

Watched back the highlights from the Dublin games in 05 and 08. Feck me they were some football games. Genuinely think history is going to look back at the 2000s as the best decade of gaelic football. Deadly mix of traditional long ball football and the integration of modern systems and conditioning.

Quote from: tyrone08 on June 24, 2025, 11:41:14 AMStill hard to know with tyrone. After beating donegal i was hopefull we put last few years behind us. Then we went out and got beat all over the park by mayo.

Last 3 years have taught us that no one knows which tyrone team is going to show up.

Darragh needs a big game as he has been poor against armagh, donegal and mayo.

Mccurry is our only real reliable scoring threat. A bad day in the office for him will spell disaster for tyrone.

That game was in Omagh in fairness and that is where Tyrone play the worst!

Pity Paul Donaghy wouldn't commit to Tyrone - he ticks alot of boxes of what we are missing. Him and Dazzler dont get on though I believe? And with Dazzler on top form hard to justify upsetting that ecosystem.

Yeah it is a shame, I remember his first tyrone game he scored 10 points I think it was. Got a fair few games after that if I remember but never kicked on. No point in having him in the squad if he is not fully invested. Same as Lee Brennan, could have been a fantastic player but the intercounty lifestyle was not for him. Cant blame lads as it is a huge ask.

Donaghy never hit the run of form expected of him, he'd be there as 2nd fiddle to the smaller lads and the Mccurry point is probably massive within that story also.

watched the division 2 final last year and thought Thomas Carney tore it up hard to understand how he never got much of a chance at that level. not a massive player height wise but can win his own ball and very strong coming onto it.

when you see the likes of McShane get the chances he did after his injuries its hard to justify stones being left unturned because a player is competing in div 2..
People too obsessed with forwards. Conor Owens, Luke Donnelly, Noah Grimes, Daniel Kerr, Fullerton, Brennan, Liam Og, Tiernan Quinn and whatever other names you want to throw in. All well and good bringing in 2/3 new forwards every season then ones getting upset when they aren't scoring 3 or 4 points every game and calling for another forward to be brought in. It's the back 6 that needs looked at and improved if possible

Good pick but l have seen nothing worth from Bradley .Would start McElholm instead with DC as Full fwd played bit out pitch. To win AI think Tyrone need a better general and more Strength at back, a horse Devlin and up front a great distributer/conductor a Brian McGuigan.
Surely RC is chomping at the bit and space should suit him. Get him angry and throw him in at 45min. for Donnelly or Daly.

Still no hope re.McKernan ?? Bad loss would have talen and countered Howard ciming thru. And Con?  Teague can take him

cjx

Cluxton is getting far too much respect. Can't kick as far as used and most kickouts aimed at sideline 50m out trap him into repeating this .But early on throw a big one up landing 10m out block Howard and send Kennedy after it diagonally with DC and McCurry to pick up the pieces.

No harm but if we start McCurry, Dara and Dazzler we'll be beat. Our worst performances have always come with 3 small forwards on the team. Those 3 and Ruari and McElholm are just all too similar.

It's annoying how, after so much underage success that and the return of the excellent Teague and Brennan to the squad we're a bit threadbare in the half-backs and half-forwards. McKernan's loss really punches a hole in our defence. Anything to be said for starting Quinn or Burns in place of McKernan? Quinn is certainly a better attacker than defender. It's a pity Shea O'Hare didn't step up to county level immediately. He's pretty much McKernan's like for like replacement. Hopefully he comes on in the next few years as Matty and Peter did previously.

Would tend to agree. If McCurry, Dara and Bradley were all firing on full cylinders I could see the point of starting them. This year our only reliable scoring threat was McCurry.

I think much has been made of the earlier Armagh championship game when we ran them close to the wire. Truth be told we were only so close thanks to some unbelievable shooting from McCurry. We haven't really solved getting early ball into the forward line or kicking long range scores. For all our fast quick players we slow the game down too much.

Think there is a good bit more work to be done with Tyrone. Just hope it doesn't end up in a hiding.

NotedObserver

The first portion of the game is key. Dublin have started the last 2 games on fire and Tyrone were slack at the start of the game v Cavan and they could have been in for goals

Definitely part of the problem is we've a lot of athletes out in the middle but not enough passers with natural ability. Conn, McGeary, Daly, Seanie and to an extent Matty haven't really an eye for a pass in the way that Harte or Richie Donnelly have. Add in the fact that the front 3 Dazzler, Dara and Sparky play on top of each other and block out each others runs.

It's not that we necessarily need a top class passer of the ball but just a bit of common sense when passing to those lads. The amount of times the likes of canavan or McCurry is out in front of his man and the ball is kicked high into them benefiting the defender rather than kicking it in front of them so it bounces into their chest.

You must be on the backroom staff...

Strong 15 named. Is this the first time this year Michael Rafferty has made the 26?

After Petey and McElholm the impact off the bench is light.

Con returning to the Dublin 26 will be a massive boost. If you leave Hampsey on him, who marks the likes of Bugler and Kilkenny?

NotedObserver

Devlin picked up con in the league will that happen again? Would con be too sharp for Hampsey now?

Mcgeary and Brennan pick up Kilkenny and bugler? Mckernan would have been on bugler if fit

trileacman

Seany might pick up Kilkenny. He's Dublins roving player and Sean is basically Meylers like for like replacement.
