Quote from: Grace Murphy on June 17, 2025, 12:45:22 PMFair play to Meyler for getting back but does he not make a big deal out of a lot of things. Mind reading an article about him few years ago about getting his sleep just right and how prepared he was for everything.

Maybe he should have a holiday or smoke a bit of weed or something.

Note: I do realise that he's way more talented than a lowly ladies footballer like myself before someone points that out!

That was the article about him taping his mouth shut at night to improve his breathing. I thought that was absolute f**king madness too but heard since it's pretty common place amongst the Tyrone senior team. Seems mental to me.

Did you read the whole thimg? He's looking for marginal gains and he's been very open about how he has been too hard on himself and the pressure and trying to be enjoy life more. He's been brilliant in being so open and vulnerable, as well as outspoken in supporting LGBT people and ladies footballers.

Young men face many issues, his speaking out helps so much. Your attitude is just perpetuating exactly what he is trying to help fight. The players aren't removed from their communities, how would you feel if he read that? He's had a horrible time of it and has got through it, we should celebrate him, not make snide judgemental comments.

Very unlucky not to be PotY in 2021 - not to take anything away from McGeary.
And very unlucky with such bad injuries for two years now, especially when he takes such care of himself and the effort he puts in. He has mentioned before about overdoing it with training, etc. and I wonder was that a factor again?
Great that he speaks out on all those things - we complain when footballers don't say anything!
Everyone built different ways - he takes it all very seriously as an athlete - maybe doesn't find it so easy to enjoy the craic like some others.

Grace Murphy

He's a serious athlete but if he had won POTY in 2021 it would have been another nail in the coffin of football in its purest form.

Why don't they just do the All Stars based on GPS trackers.

Just thought some of the pics at the end of the Cavan game where a bit attention seeking.

Player gets injured comes back plays football it's a story as old as time, just get on with it .

Conor McKenna was handy to have about in 2021, someone like him would be a big help for our last 3 matches this year.

The just get on with it mentality and claiming anyone who is open and vulnerable are attention seeking, is a massive problem. I hope nobody is relying on you for emotional support anyway...

Was a top class distance runner before he came to the fore in football, he's merged 2 disciplines, the unthinking agony of top class running - a mental battle where your focus is preservation of energy, economy and single minded mental strength, a battle of the mind and and body often against yourself moreso than your competitors

And the discipline of football where you have to actively execute skills while thinking and making decisions, taking hits, all while hauling ass and blowing out your hole. Obviously the top county players have these traits also but I think Melyer's previous background in running makes him a pretty extreme example, he was a fitness machine, very few could match him for intensity over the course - Dooher style I guess

The query was made above that I agree with, overtraining has likely contributed to the breakdown, there's only so many high intensity miles you can put through knees hips and tissues before things start to fail or fall apart

Will be very interesting to see what contribution he can make the next 3 games if Tyrone make the final but I wouldn't be too harsh if he doesn't hit his 2021-22 levels, has hardly played a competitive game in years and being dropped in at the top level is a lot to expect against match fit battle hardened opponents

Any suggestion his influence on 2021 was down to fitness alone is ridiculous. He shut down key men in opposition teams all the way through that run while also linking the play and contributed in attack, and bringing leadership. McGeary got the award because his contributions was more obvious - and he had a great summer - but I'd always argue Meyler's contribution was greater.

He also backed it up after 2021 in a struggling team when others dropped off badly. And now he has fought back from horrific injury problems. I've nothing but admiration for the man.

He didn't take any of those pics after the Cavan game, he simply embraced family who knew better than any of us what he had done to get back there.

Strange sporting culture at times when a man gets a hard time for striving to be as good as he can be, showing his emotions and speaking eloquently. Some people seem to feel strangely threatened by this.

McGearys a better footballer - Meyler is a better athlete - Im glad McGeary won it. Here if Meyler is as good as everyone in here says i'll eat humble pie when he delivers us another All Ireland in 2025. Until then I look forward to reading more articles about how intense it is playing an amateur sport and how much commitment it takes to make sure you have unprecedented levels of non fun! You know it Mucker!

Has there been any news of McKernans injury? Timeline for return?

Will be a massive miss if not involved for the remainder of the campaign.

Looks like some poor wee girl from Antrim had her heart broke by Meyler in the past.

ONeill

So what do Tyrone need to show that they can compete at the level Armagh are at?

I know we ran them close in the Ulster semi but I thought that scoreline flattered Tyrone.

More from the FF line outside of McCurry?
A higher percentage of success with kickouts?
More game time for proven winners like Hampsey, Meyler and Donnelly?

It's hard to know as we seem a bit lighter physically but then again in 21 the side just grew in confidence as the season progressed.

Having McKenna and McShane were handy back then too.
I wanna have my kicks before the whole shithouse goes up in flames.
