Quote from: Interstellar on June 01, 2025, 04:39:19 PMGalway's Daly took at least 10 steps before scoring his point at the end. I thought refs were clamping down on this.

Shane Walsh took 6+ steps for his goal...

Wasn't that much in it... I'd be more worried about the poor defending from McEvoy...

6 steps after the bounce

Is Murphy injured or off the panel,  his speed was starting to look like a benefit last yr but he totally disappeared this Yr, outside a sub in a few early league games

jb77

Don't think he's played for mfelt, must be injured

Seriously impressed with the improvement in derry today and the effort put in.
More like the team we know they can be.
We pushed up on kickouts and the difference in the midfield area was night and day from the Armagh game, which is a huge positive.

Gk cost us again though. Kicks too slow and not accurate. I reckon at least 2 goals 2pts as a direct result of gk errors.
Don't like pointing the finger, but we really need Lynch back in.

The ref was as bad as I have seen.
Galway I felt were at a lot of off the ball stuff and yet they got every 50/50 call going. Not sure what the foul was on comer towards the end to give a tap over free. Sidelines too.
Bookings galore for derry whilst galway players getting away with the same thing. He gave a free out for galway in the 2nd half near the galway end line where two men both went down to pick up the ball, he just gave a free out and it didn't there was no foul that I saw.
Really poor.

People talking about derry  ot closing it out, comer and Cooke came on and changed the game for galway. They begain winning more around the middle and played direct ball to comer who looked very sharp.
Tohill came in, I imagine to try to break that stranglehold galway got in mf.

I think every player on the field should get credit as I think they left it all on the field. A win was there though and whilst the performance was great the result is still disappointing.

I reckon if we can build on that and get Ly ch back we can beat Dublin. Hopefully Armagh do us a favour and beat galway.

For what its worth, Nial Loughlin was my motm. Really was outstanding, just ran out of steam.

That was as good a championship game I've seen in a long time from Derry. Hard hitting, niggle, 50-50 contests, off the ball stuff everywhere and some good ball played in atrocious conditions. Not a huge crowd by any means but it was loud in the stand with every hit and score heard. The players gave everything for the shirt today. Special mention to Conor Glass who was monstrous, by god that man was immense.

A few decisions by the ref were questionable, and a couple of the goals avoidable which is a running theme of our year. Kickouts were better but creaked for the last 10 minutes or so.

I'm gutted about not winning but in the main pretty positive. We didn't down tools against Armagh and we outplayed Galway for long spells today. There's still a quality team there and hopefully the lads can take confidence from that. Not sure how we will fair with Dublin. I'll say this we are properly road tested and have played the best teams in Ireland. Hopefully we can get to that level again and have a ding dong battle and see where it leaves us.

Quote from: theticklemister on June 01, 2025, 07:28:33 PMBig game from McFaul today. Every time he got ball, he purposefully went forward at pace instead of side to side.

Are you completely deluded? Slowed everything down and killed out attack time after time.

No longer part of the panel.

Was a good spectacle today in Celtic Park. Our key players all stood up. Felt sorry for our keeper- looks out of his depth. His positioning for the 4th goal smacked of desperation. We had the ball deep in the Galway half and tried to force a goal chance and lost possession. Should have retained possession and seen the game out.

We had 2 wides all game. Compare this with Dublins 17 wides against Armagh and let's hope they bring that kind of scoring prowess in 2 weeks time!!

Will Con be fit for the dubs?

Wildweasel74

Desperation? Why. All he has do was stay on his line, it was well away to the left and away from the goals, He got nowhere near it. That was the 3rd time he came out for balls, where he should stayed on the line.

He's not deluded, McFaul was immense today.. Every team needs a 'water carrier'

Agree. For the Walsh goal he threw a leg at it but McEvoy was found wanting on that occasion too . I think Lynchy saves that though

Watched it on TV and agree with you that Derry rose the intensity levels by a few decimals and at times looked like the real deal.

But your personal attack on your keeper overshadows your good key points, no place for that on a public discussion board. Unless of course they are professionals and being well paid. Shocking imo.

There is not one bit of what was said that is personal, people like you getting offended when any slight bit of criticism that is given to anyone. Its big boy football and I'm 100% sure Ben is man enough to know and acknowledge mistakes were made. Grow up its still only a game after all.

Je lads and lassies, no need to single any of our Derry players out online. Come on, get them when they are playing well and do like wise when they are not.
