Quote from: HokeyPokey on May 14, 2025, 10:50:36 PMIt's funny how brilliant players can come through the same teams or how some brilliant minor teams don't  produce any players. The 97/98 and 2008 minor vintages come to mind or the 2015 U21 team. 2010 had Sludden who was great, but also Ronan O'Neill and Richie Donnelly, though them not fulfilling their promise can be attributed to injuries and/or the playing style and management.

Both Donnelly and O'neill played for Tyrone for about a decade each. Both have all Ireland medals and Ulster titles. There's no doubt they may have been affected by injuries and management/playing style but it's very harsh to say they didn't fulfill their potential when they have had a career most inter county footballers could only dream about.

Also I'm near sure Mccurry was in that 2010 minor team.

Richard Donnelly was never really expected to be great and he didn't have a great inter county career at senior level.

Ronan O'Neill and Conan Grugan were the stars of the 2010 minor team and neither fulfilled their potential either.

You must have been some player Nrico. Ludicrous and stupid statement to be honest. Can you better it?

Those 3 players had some careers and still going strong.

I am sure if you asked Richie if an AI minor, AI senior, multiple Tyrone championships and leagues would be the outcome at the end of his career he would have taken it - potential is a dangerous word.

These lads were all successful in my opinion

Solid rotational player. 1 all ireland title and 2/3(?) Ulster titles.

Must be some stellar careers on this forum!

Believe they opted to play anyway as a club. Errigal Ciaran have said they would do the same.

Was Clarke dropped v Armagh? Quinn did fine in the game. Will both Harte and Donnelly start? Will Oguz get another go or will Orourke look for alternatives?

Tyrone confidence at an all time high, going to Ballybofey and playing with 14

Really fancy us this weekend versus Donegal. Had had a long time to prepare and plan since the Armagh game. Donegal bound to be in recovery mode for a few weeks.

Cant see us beating them to be honest. I hope we would be close towards the end. Would also like to a less reliance on Darragh or Darren having to score wonder points to keep us in the game.

I'll have what you're having!

I admire the optimism, I really do. But I can't see it, especially with the game being in the dreaded Ballybofey.

Goals_Will_Come

Surely to be in with a chance we need to be starting with closer to our strongest team - so Mattie Donnelly and Peter Harte starting. Half forward line was a major issue against Armagh and them two would immediately improve it. Then you can have potential impact players like McElholm, O'Donnell, Ruairi, Oguz coming on as the tiredness creeps in. I think Hampsey has to come into the full back line probably at the expense of Devlin, and a fit Mark Bradley also has to start.
Morgan, Hamspey, Teague, Quinn, McKernan, Brennan, McGeary, Kennedy, Kilpatrick, Daly/Donaghy, Mattie, Peter Harte, McCurry, Bradley, D Canavan.

This team needs a half forward line more than anything, McKernan is at the peak of his powers, not many stopping him given a bit more freedom to work as a trio with Conn and big Brian

Are you from Omagh or why have you took a disliking to Peter Teague? Thought he was solid in the position he played. I have a vague memory of Michael Mckernain playing forward for UUJ?
I have always depended on the kindness of strangers.

Glad Teague got a second shot at Tyrone and he's acquitted himself well, but now that Hampseys back he can provide the bulk in there with 2 others needed to mark more elusive players, feel Clarke is better at that and better suited to the forwards Donegal have, felt he was unfairly left out the last day, though mgmt. is all about making those tough decisions

The key to unlocking a lot of what Tyrone want to do is mobility, I feel O'Donnell and McKernan are 2 that can carry the fight in different ways, more suited to 5 and 12 respectively, like 2003 Tyrone are a few tweaks away from Sam, a bit of luck in that regard and the bounce of a ball and it could be a very memorable season

tyrone08

One big thing that would need to change is the intensity. Last game against Armagh I was pulling my hair out at the lack of intensity from the players, they would follow the Armagh player but wouldnt put a hand in or put them under pressure. The amount of shots they got off without a challenge was criminal.

Also think Darragh and Ruairi have a point to prove in this match. Both were well marshalled in against Armagh and were constantly caught out trying to do the same dummy every single time.
