Zonal marking cant work at this level. Opposition players simply have to move been the set defenders. Numerous times there wasn't a Tyrone man anywhere near the Armagh player receiving the kick out. What really annoyed me was Tyrone players running past the man with ball. No tackles or pressure applied.

Compared to Morgan who had to go for low percentage passes all the time because their men were simply being marked, hence why he kicked out over the line twice.

Quote from: cjx on April 27, 2025, 08:14:56 PMTyrone should have held on and won. Bad game management at end big part up to Morgan as he controls kickouts. Irish News report stats. On kickouts told it all. No press no strategy on own or Armagh's . 3 chest height uncontested catches on own kickouts by Armagh at 50-60m out . Inexcusable.Standing off Armagh of all teams ludicrous. No muscle no tone. Physical and Mental conditioning/strength missing. Porter not doing his job. RC prima donna hopeless. P Harte, M Donnelly and McElholm should have started and given all they had for 45-50 min then mebbe mebbe RC could come on and do something useful.
No general at the back.  Is that Brennan's role or the constantly  lateral McGeary? Hampsay should have been brought on earlier. Morgan kickouts got worse towards the end . McCurry brilliant now there is mental physical strength in action. And yet they so nearly won. Says it about Armagh too.

Porter doesn't do strength work.

Quote from: ONeill on April 27, 2025, 11:49:44 PMLoads of positives yesterday.

Tyrone haven't been performing anywhere near AI contender level since the Mayo final in 2021. That's 4 years. It'll take time. MOR is astute enough to know the long game. I've no idea how we were still in that game yesterday after 55 mins but in previous years that was a 8-9 point loss.

The zonal marking didn't work yesterday. It was frustrating to watch players turn their back on Armagh possession.

On another note, the new rules are taking a lot out on players and refs. I saw Gough at HT and it looked like he was struggling.
I was talking to a club ref who said he was knackered after a club game. Don't envy them at all with the new rules and people not fully understanding them so they give out to the ref and the fitness now needed

Well what does he do? Anyway sack anyone involved in developing the mental and physical condition of that team.

Is there anywhere or anyone who has the current tyrone squad. There are some players that I thought where very good prospects that don't seem to be mentioned anymore. Given the lack lustre forward unit (exception of dazzler) be interested to see.

Mickey O'Neill didn't play, although could be injured.

Is Cullen injured, felt he showed well last year and I can't remember him getting any game time in the NFL?

I agree on this in theory and like the idea but this is going to be impossible to police - what happens if some other lads now want game time to keep sharp during the starred game sequence - will they get club game time?

Who decides who gets some minutes at club level and who doesn't?
Is it a classified as a non starred game if a county player gets 'game time'?

County squad lads should be allowed to play club football for sure if not playing county regular - it might help prevent players leaving county squads you would imagine...

Maybe a model that mirrored rugby where county management can release players back to the clubs knowing that they aren't in the frame for the upcoming county match, invariably this would then become a source of consternation because there's nothing quite like a pissing contest and talk of bias e.g. if Malachy wanted to get some more minutes into McShane, where's that happening? Its in everyones best interests that lads are playing football and not sat idle, even if you're in the opposition, as one day the shoe will be on the other foot

Harte, Donnelly and McShane out sick previous game

Who will lose out if Hampsey returns to form? Could Teague move out pitch?
How many of donaghy, Daly and Oguz will start next day?
Will mark bradley return to starting 15?
