Thoughts on yesterday.

Management were poor in their decision making. Tyrone were cleaned out on all kick outs. Should have hooked off both canavans as they were taking too much out of the ball and giving possession away. Should have brought on sparky instead.

Tyrone lack direct runners. All our forwards are light and try to dance around the opposition. We dont run direct at defences. Kennedy and kilpatrick did it twice yesterday and got scores from it. Need more direct running.

Dont think oguz, daly or donaghy add anything to the team. Watched oguz quiet a bit for errigal and tyrone, not up to standard and defensively he is poor.

If it wasnt for mccurry we would have been completely destroyed. He saved Malachy in alot of ways as if he had an off day tyrone would have been nowhere near Armagh.

The kick out strategy, or lack of, was bizarre. You had to be at the game to fully appreciate the space the Armagh middle 8 got and the complete ease they received kickouts. There were at least 3 or 4 occasions where they'd a diamond of 4 players in MF completely unmarked and any one of them could have fetched with ease.

We very nearly pulled off what would have been a memorable win. Having said that I thought we were second best for most of the game. We are improving but still a bit off the top teams yet.need to add a bit of power to the forward line as we don't have enough men to break tackles or draw frees.missed mattie late in that game for that reason.

On another note I've been going to tyrone games for nearly 40 years and I don't remember our fans being outnumbered like that before. Must have been 8 armagh for every tyrone supporter.

Beat a terrible Cavan team and lost to Armagh with only 6 of their All Ireland starting team.
Whatever the plan was on both kickouts malfunctioned badly.
Would need to finish the season strongly. Could get a tough group as well.

Aye not sure how leaving players open on every kickout was meant to help us win. Armagh pushed up and went man to man not sure why we couldn't do the same

Tyrone are the new Derry.

Don't believe the hype around MOR, he's been dismal since he's got the job. Some of the decisions all season are just baffling.

How Daly, Oguz, Ruari, O'Donnell and Donaghey are judged to be worth more game time than Peter Harte or Matty Donnelly is just a joke. Likewise he cost us Div 1 status early in the year by not playing Brennan, Sparky or Teague in the opening league rounds and starting with Burns and a load of guys out of position.

Most frustrating of all yesterday was the complete lack of a press strategy. It's really where the game was lost. Armagh got 100% of their kick outs away in the 1st half whilst Tyrone men stood around in a zonal pattern letting them have the ball every time. The management looked at this for 70 mins and never once thought to tell the lads to simply pick a man and mark him for the kick out (precisely what Armagh had done to us and won 50% of our kick outs).

At half time it's was clear that his changes of Oguz and Ruari were a mistake and needed hooked. Yet he gave them another 10 mins of the 2nd half at the end of which we were 6 points down. The game then literally changed once we'd those 2 guys off.

I think the best club scene in the world accounts for some of it, people don't have the spare time to be running to county matches

It's a 20 man game, Harte and Donnelly might be better coming in fresh as finishers when someone else has run the ballix off themselves for 50mins

RedHand88

The standing off was driving me insane. Will someone please explain what is wrong with pressing/tackling a man outside the 45? Why do we let teams solo it about midfield unchallenged?

Armagh done that too though. It's the bullshit new rules that has led to such a stale, placid defending.

Teamtalk saying both were ill. Teague has played nearly every minute in the league. Orourke has been looking for players to make the step up and gave them their chance during league and yesterday. Unfortunately they didn't take their chance

I'd say you'd need to be fairly blind not to see the improvement in Tyrone from last year. Yes it's not perfect yet but we have disposed of a Cavan team who took us to extra time last year, fairly easily and took the reigning all Ireland champions to within a kick of the ball. Yes there's loads of work to do but I'd be fairly confident that we are moving in the right direction.
That was never a square ball!!

tyrone08

Appreciate Malachy is trying to find new players to replace the likes of mattie and Peter however he was far too slow make the changes when it was clear it wasnt working.

Likes of sparky and mcshane must have been annoyed watching the canavans trying the same dummy at every chance and lose possession.

There is some positives but the score line significantly flattered us thanks solely to mccurry.
