Quote from: SaffronSports on March 05, 2025, 01:43:20 PMWell it becomes everyone at Intermediate's problem if you drop them down there. They're a better team than most at senior. The simple solution is to completely separate league and championship.
An even more simple solution is keep Dunloy in the intermediate until they decide to put more effort into the league. The special treatment given here is scandalous. Our reserves were told they couldnt enter Div 2 as the league structures were set in stone until 2026, then they discover Dunloy have been parachuted into Div 1. Only in Antrim

How to bring this back to poor old Cargin, sick of your negativity on this page. you do some whinging

Dunloy could be pipped in the intermediate championship, wouldn't say they are miles ahead of st endas or Moneyglass on their day.  Just makes a mockery of the whole thing.  Dunloy are in division 1 this year,  if they don't give a hoot about league football,  surely it would be better for them to be in division 2 then? Championship needs to go hand in hand with the league, I don't think the current format really works.

Also, above is correct ref Dunloy.  Ref Cargin reserves, where they looking to be parachuted into D2?  Should they not start in D3?

Aye 3 would have done, but not allowed. 3 other clubs also were in the same boat so I am not making this about our club, was just explaining the Dunloy lack of consistency

Quote from: Milltown Row2 on March 05, 2025, 01:57:52 PMWith the leagues changing all the time and players away with the county the league has come across as a glorified set of challenge games leading up to championship, as long as a team is not in a battle to stay up they will treat it indifferently..

Plenty of reasons around that but that's been the case for many many years.

The question is how do you make the league worth winning or even top 4, what are the incentives?

Why do the Tyrone lads go hell for leather in the league? Does that county just have a different mind set to their competitions?

Either way something has to be worked out between the clubs, all of the clubs, in all divisions, as it effects them too.

I do remember a simpler time when watching our seniors as a kid, we travelled all over to see them, we didn't win too many leagues from what I recall but it was well attended
Mind you the Tyrone league final was played in Christmas week.  Nowhere is perfect!

Plenty of fixtures on there.

No stand out fixture on that first round of games
None of us are getting out of here alive, so please stop treating yourself like an after thought.

16 teams in Div 1 is crazy but good to see St Paul's back in Division 1.

Probably the pick of the opening fixtures, for interest they'll want to get out with a performance with the result being a cherry on top.

St Galls and Rossa probably looks the more interesting for me. Agreed - 16 teams is crazy. I don't see the need for it at all.

Take the Mark

Too many teams is right, at least 8 too many. The bottom half of the division should be contesting IFC between them come August. Even at that there would be a couple at least in the top 8 with no chance of winning SFC. Outside of Cargin, Creggan, Portglenone and St Brigids (in that order IMHO) I don't give the rest a look in.

Aghagallon got to a couple of finals and put up a massive game vs Cargin but have faltered since, wouldn't be a huge surprise if they broke into the reckoning either I suppose but they were miles off last year.

Spike

Hard to see past PG1 and St Brigids challenging.  Creggan, Lamh Dhearg and Aghagallon weren't great last season and appear to be on the wrong side of a building cycle.  perhaps these new rules will suit them but that is a big perhaps.
