Quote from: Grace Murphy on February 24, 2025, 12:24:02 AMAm I being harsh if I said Morgan could have done better for the goals?

The entire defence could have done better.

The art of tackling seems completely lost. Seems that players are going for the man rather than the ball, to interested in pushing the player rather than going for the ball.

I think it was the 2nd Clifford goal where he held the ball out in front of him  and niall devlin stood looking at him waiting for Clifford to make a move instead of going directly for the ball.

Brendan Cawley in charge on Sunday, looking ominous..... hopefully Galway are in second gear with their points on the board, if they're at full pelt I can't see us getting anything. They've beaten us in the league in 2023 and 2024 and the meeting before that was the tanking down there in 2020

Tyrone just need to mark Shane Walsh properly. Don't let him kick 2pters, even 1pters for that matter.

That'll cut down Galway's scoring power significantly.

Galway could expose our weaknesses v quickly. Armagh were able to man handle us and Galway size could do the same. Kennedy needs to get help dealing the midfield aerial threats but it will be a stern test and will show again the level we need to get to

Is Ruairi McHugh anywhere near the senior set up - always seemed to be big potential there?

Quote from: Wildweasel74 on February 23, 2025, 07:08:05 PMAsk the simple question, are the players there. Take out the 2 Canavans, what left up front?

I struggle to think of many other counties that have a set of inside forwards like Bradley, McShane, McCurry, Canavan x2 and McElholm?

Obviously all in varying form, but they've shown it in the past or have big potential.

Clifford is arguably the only inside forward who is definitely above Darragh C.

Depends on what Galway want. They might do a Donegal and step off the gas.
I wanna have my kicks before the whole shithouse goes up in flames.

Clifford, Sean O'Shea, Conn O'Callaghan, Shane Walsh, Rian O'Neill, Oisin Gallen, Shane McGuigan.
Would any of the top teams swap their marquee forward for Darragh, I don't think they would.
Mayo are the only top team who haven't a forward as good or better than Darragh Canavan.
You could do this with any of our forwards - McCurry/McBrearty McElholm/Murray Bradley/Basquel McShane/Murnin Ruairi Canavan/Finnerty.
We haven't got an elite forward line when we compare with the other Division 1 teams.

That is some insult to Andy Murnin.

Bradley has never done anything of note in a Tyrone Jersey despite numerous chances

McShane had 1 decent season. Decent is all it was.

McCurry decent on his day

D Cav very good

R Cav has done nothing of note in a Tyrone Jersey

McElholm - all this talk and has been poor on each game to date

Jasus you could give them a chance. Wonder what you were saying about Darragh Canavan in his first 2 years with Tyrone. Takes players a good 3/4 years to find their feet

McShane in his "decent all it was" season was top scorer in 2019 and an all star in FF, a year after playing midfield in an all Ireland final. The same McShane who then came back from serious injury to score goals in the all Ireland semi and the final in 2021. Not bad
McCurry decent on his day 😂😂😂
Judging mcelhom on what? About 100 minutes of adult football?

I don't think the problems really rest in the forwards. Get them the ball and they do well. Great potential ther. What Tyrone needs is a real well conditioned fullback line and a general like Horse at the back. Losing track of forwards (and sleepiness) as they did against Kerry is suicidal and leaving a junior corner back isolated on the best forward in football was a disaster that could have been avoided. Maybe Morgan does not shout enough to his backs but l do not think it fair to blame him despite his ropey kickouts in Pomeroy but that was an awful wind to judge anything in.

You're right. The defence has been the problem for the past few years now. At least against Kerry they seem to get stuck in a bit more but they still lose track of the runners off the shoulder too often. Something that needs to improve
