Quote from: imtommygunn on October 10, 2024, 10:12:40 AMYeah I would feel the same. I would expect a 4 or 5 point victory. It definitely feels like a more interesting final than we've had in a few years - though maybe that's because it's a novel pairing.

For Portglenone to win they will need most of their team to have the games of their lives and Cargin to maybe not be 100% at it. Could happen - who knows.

Novel pairing?  Off the top of my head...

2023 Cargin v Dunloy
2022 Cargin v Aghagallon
2021 Creggan v Aghagallon
2020 Cargin v Creggan
2019 Cargin v Lamh Dhearg
2018 Cargin v Creggan
2017 Lamh Dhearg v St Johns

Since 2017 there's only be the same pairing twice.  The additional buzz around this final is coming from Portglenone's first appearance in a while.  It's not a novel pairing any more than Dunloy last year, Aghagallon a couple of years before that and Cargin v Creggan before that again.

Cargin's game management can't be underestimated.  They've been brilliant at it for so long now and know how to win games against different opposition.  I always get the feeling they can go through the gears if they want to.  They'll win on Sunday, 4-6 points.

Quote from: Hectic on October 10, 2024, 10:46:13 AMI think there will be some debate given regulations don't cover all bases.

Particularly if Dunloy opt down to Intermediate as nothing in place to say who replaces them.  But is there even any truth that Dunloy would want to go intermediate having come out of their group again this year?

I think the restructuring was a nonsense to begin with this year.  I really don't understand why they wanted to increase the number of teams in Division 1 when, if anything, should have been looking to reduce.

Same goes for Championship.  Our Intermediate winners are now further down the rankings than in years gone by.  Ok at Antrim level but hurts us when going provincial. As is also the case for Junior winners.

I dont see Dunloy opting to go down to Intermediate.  They want to stay in senior.

Around the glens

Talking to people from Dunloy and some players they most certainly want to be staying in senior football. Quite a few good minors coming through to add to the panel aswell. Be interesting to see how it all pans out.

St Pat's Lisburn GAA has been around longer than most Belfast clubs. Comparing them to a team established 2 decades ago, without a field in its own parish and who are only punching above their weight due to an influx of players after a fall-out in Derry, is a bit of a disservice to Lisburn tbf

Mic drop.

Watched that podcast, thanks G&T. A couple of participants looked very easy in that role, well done.

Whilst on YouTube I watched full game of div 4 final Antrim v Louth in Croke Park 2017. Well worth another look.

We had some team out that day too, but somehow managed to lose despite several outstanding individual performances.

Would ye whist

2 Questions:

1. Is St Brides the most disliked club in Antrim?

2. Do we know if any of the finals are being streamed this weekend?

would agree with above.  hard to find a more interesting final than Dunloy in it last year and Aghagallon's appearances.

Remember it well BS but you are a year out I think it was 16. If I recall correctly we took Matt Fitz off with about 10 minutes left and we were up 2 points, seconds later his man marauded up the far wing and set up a goal and Louth went into the lead and got a real lift.

I also recall the Croke Park Hotel pints afterwards as will you  ;D

I remember after that getting thrown out of Meaghers for standing on a stool and singing the Green Glen's of Antrim, so yea, the pints were going down a bit too well.

Naw, definitely 2017. Lenny did 18, 19 and 20, and incidentally a team with less star names beat Louth in the qualifiers in Drogheda, not sure if it was 18 or 19.

Then EMG came in 21 and 22, and Andy 23/24.

Hopefully he sees a few new faces fitting in for 25.

Fair point ITG - Ballymena should be as well equipped as most of the recent Intermediate winners.

And going by above posts saying Dunloy wanting to stay up then maybe won't be much debate with Saturdays winners replacing St Endas in senior.

That will pretty much follow the regulations and maybe that's how they were always intended with the catalysts for other permutations being just unfounded rumour.

Suppose it could still go tits up if Ballymena don't win Saturday but don't think that will happen.

We played in Division 3 in 2017

Spike

Louth - Antrim was the 2016 Div 4 league final if i recall.  tactical disaster happened in the 2nd half with Louths half forward left unmarked for 10 minutes in the confusion.

McEntee loves a good B competition so expect to see him at the Intermediate final with a host of St Teresa's players called up to the county squad next season.

BigGreenField

Cargin will win, as much as they have the knack of not losing, which is a hard earned thing.

The Aghagallon final is the template for Portglenone, blitzkrieg approach but don't shrink back and hope the legs hold out when the Cargin pressure comes.

100% Spike, thats the incident I referred to. It just went pear shaped from that substitution onwards. Not saying Fitzy was starring but was doing a job defence wise.

Both teams kicked serious wides too.
