Would Aghagallon not be in the mix also, lost by a point last year to Cargin with their star man sent off and should have beat them in county final year before?

Quote from: Spike on August 20, 2024, 09:41:33 AMEvery dog has its day.  We saw last year that the Autumn weather can be a great leveller with negative tactics which all of the challengers employ.

We havent seen what any of them are like if knocked off their rhythm yet.  The Biddies look best placed, Creggan and Ports dangerous and LD the unknown dark horses.

I took in the LD game and PG1 games over the weekend. I dont think LD will be near it, AG missed maybe 4 or 5 good goal chances in the game which didn't seem to make it in to the match report, game was tight until the red card 15 mins from the end. Dunloy LD will tell a tale of where both teams are at.

PG1 will probably be the best placed team after Cargin and Brides. They got it tight against Moneyglass but they seemed to be in third gear the whole time, whether or not they can step it up against the bigger teams remains to be seen but they have the quality when they turn it on.

Is this not a dead rubber at this point?

What way does the relegation work now? Moneyglass are down for sure but who joins them?

BrendanAntrim

The four bottom teams go into a relegation play off, 2 semis and a 'final' - losing team drops to intermediate for next year.

So Moneyglass aren't down yet, all 4th place get two chances to avoid relegation

Relegation from the league and championship are different. Moneyglass will be in division two but could still play senior championship.

Depends on you POV - winners of the group get second place in St. Brigids/Aghagallon/Creggan/Galls group, second place will most likely get St. Brigids - though not confirmed. There was a bit of niggle in the Dunloy LD game last year so I would say both will be going all out for the win.

Pretty sure league and championship are coupled, so Moneyglass are Div 2/Intermediate next year. Leaving one more to go down from the Senior Groups.

I am not sure about that... I thought they decoupled them?

Quote from: imtommygunn on August 20, 2024, 09:26:23 AMI honestly don't think they do.

Agree, just cant see St Bridgets beating Cargin in a championship game.  Its a one horse race.

If Dunloy reach the semi-finals, then both "finalists" in the championship relegation playoff are relegated.

How does that work?

County board should have bit the bullet and fully aligned the leagues and champs when they had the chance.

Dunloy look like they'll stay out of the champ relegation quagmire, meaning that next year they'll be div 2 and senior.

Meanwhile Ballymena seem like they might be up to the task of intermediate, so would they stay in div 1 and intermediate?

imtommygunn

Moneyglass will be division two and senior next year. (Unlikely in their group they will be relegated - in fact it may be impossible already the way results have panned out). Ballymena will maybe still win intermediate.

Most counties are decoupling league and championship. The split season makes it more of a thing to do that.

The regulations say the following:

"In the event that a team playing in Div 2 reaches the semi-final of the SFC and is seeded for the following year's SFC, then both teams in the SFC relegation final shall be relegated to Div 2 and IFC, unless that club opts to play in Div 2 and IFC."

Is it absolute or are we to expect the challenges and refusals to drop down that we saw in Derry over the past few years?

lol - could they have made things any more complicated?

But then given this structure was only cobbled together after last years leagues had finished, and to be implemented immediately (clubs didn't know at the start of, or during, last season what they were actually playing for), then Id say there is every chance it is all up for discussion/challenge again this autumn/winter.
