It will go down as the worst appointment in GAA history. Both from Derrys perspective and from Mickey Harte's perspective. How either side thought it was a good idea to begin with is baffling.

You have to realise, Colm is on good money. Why would he give that up.

QuoteColm O'Rourke is to seek another three years as Meath senior football boss with the Royal legend keen to remain in the hot seat for five years at a "minimum".

Progress has been slow for O'Rourke, who led Meath to Tailteann Cup success last year, having finally gotten his chance to take the reins with his native county and they exited the All-Ireland SFC after today's three-point loss to Monaghan.

Having finished with no points from three games in the group series, O'Rourke insists that time will be needed if they are to come anywhere close to soaring as they did in his own playing days.

O'Rourke initially signed up for three years at the helm - with a review after the second season - and he feels that good things are around the corner for an inexperienced squad that will only get "better and better and better".

"Well, I think it's going to take several years to build a team here, so I think it might take five years. So I think I'll go to the county board and ask them to give me five years as a minimum thing," O'Rourke said today.

"Because I think it's going to take certainly two or three years. We will be better next year, we'll be in contention for promotion from the second division (of the League) and then by the following year, we'll be in contention with all the big teams so it's a job of work.

"I'd be happy to stay with them, they're a great group of fellas, they're very committed and very dedicated. All they need is time and patience and kindness. I'm confident in them because they have a huge commitment.

"They all want to better themselves, their commitment to training and their dedication and discipline is just first class, as good as any other Meath team I've seen, so I think if we have patience with them they will significantly improve."

After the Quarter Final weekend....
Harte on thin ice
Farrell probably step down
Ger Brennan safe
Davy....a few asking questions but it was a 3 year agreenent and he wants to stay.

After Prelims
Extended Rhubarb crew probably safe
Dooher/Logan looks like they've run their course
Corey ????
Cleary probably step down
Play the game and play it fairly
Play the game like Dermot Earley.

You'd wonder how after another poor year.

Think Corey will stick with the rebuild.

Harte hasn't done any worse than all of the local managers over the years. For example Barton, Moran, Crozier, Brennan.

Maybe Muldoon could be manager some time with McKaigue after he retires. Conleith Gilligan maybe.

I don't particularly want Malachy O'Rourke as it would just feel too much like a Glen team for my liking.

I wonder if Harte was Derry manager in the 2000s would he have won All Irelands with those players.

Doubt it. Tyrone team 03-08 were far better than the current Derry team.

A few individuals would have made the 15, sure, but overall...no contest

That Tyrone team were unreal and were pushed all the way by an unreal Armagh team as well so I doubt it too.

.....God forbid they'd play like Glen and ended up winning an all Ireland.🙄🫣

Derry chance was last year when still a bit unknown. How good are they? Not sure. Maybe a top 6 side

Prob the 6th best side in the country and they've had a terrible championship. A good manager improves them imo. McGuinness moved Donegal from about 10 to the top 4.

There can be big changes in one year. We've 3 teams that didn't make a semi final last year in the semis this year.

Think they're in a decent place- wouldn't take a whole pile to make them proper all ireland contenders but maybe thats more to do with there being no stand out teams anymore, Kerry were there for the taking on Sunday and maybe the Derry of last year would have beaten them or at least asked a lot more questions of them. They've a decent age profile and plenty of good underage teams and schools teams so they'll be knocking on the door for a while yet.
