Championship form doesn't always come from a brilliant league campaign, that said Cargin have always brought good energy to the league, a bit like Loughgiel in the hurling, so if you have a good result against these teams in the league you aint doing too bad.

Been impressed with Ballymena this year, sometimes its takes a while for tactics and so on to bed in, also a bitta luck with the league changing, again in hurling that worked out very well for St Enda's to bed in some good youth into their senior team and they have maintained that level for a while now.

The squad size and players fighting for positions on the starting 15 is also a big factor..

Quote from: imtommygunn on May 10, 2024, 09:44:18 AMThey are getting better though and I am not sure other teams are. I think you are over estimating St Brigids Caesar as I don't think they are in that group yet. (yes they're going ok in the league but very early stages for that).

Creggan 2+ years ago were the team that could challenge them but seem to have dropped off. If they can get back to their previous level then maybe they can challenge them. Jury still out for PG1 in championship (no offense BS!) too. LD not quite as good now either. They really should have beat them in Corrigan that time but Finucane basically have Cargin 2 goals. Honestly find it hard to see them being beat for a few years with the current lie of things.

I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss St Brigids who have been underachieving for a while, but I suppose time will tell

It would be good if they were to get up there and would kick on with the underage teams but they have a lot to prove yet for me before being talked about as being anywhere near challengers. As per other counties our leagues are glorified friendlies for a while so it's hard to tell just yet.

Also seen St.galls where pipped by TNN. after a promising start, Galls surely disappointed at that result. TNN havent been good, though their hurlers are doing rightly

The modern game is very defensive, chess like if you will. Teams don't want to lose and will do anything within their powers to nullify an opposition teams game plan so that they can get something out of the result. That's understandable when stakes are high for certain teams that could be facing the drop.

TNN played a team that where unbeaten in the league last night. St galls had county players and A.l club winners playing, and they managed to defeat them by 2 points. Would have been 5 only for a late goal going by twitter.
TNN look to be in a good place and I find your statement on their current outlook to be a bit hasty but hey I don't know!?!

Antrim team named, some obvious stand out players unavailable for Antrim over the years.

Club is king

Your club mate in the half back line is an interesting one. Loughran back in the squad is good to see.

He'll not play there nor will Jordan play corner forward

Why managers do this I never know

We needed that win today against Tipperary, harder games to come now against Wexford and Sligo

Some great performances today I thought, particularly Declan Lynch Joe Finnegan and Kavan Keenan. Good to see Ruairi and Adam back, with Conchuir Johnston just a few weeks away.

Ryan McQuillan living up to high expectations too, can't have enough marquee forwards.

Kavan Keenan put in a serious shift, some really good power running, put himself about and really tried to drive forward at every opportunity.  Ryan McQuillan good as well,  exactly the type of corner forward that is needed,  lively,  evasive and looks like a score taker. Thought Paddy McAleer was going well until he went off,  must have been injured, lost their way around the middle for a while after that.  Conor Hand good game as well. Marc Jordan just puts in a shift every time I see him play.  Enjoyable game overall, plenty of scores. Look very vulnerable though at the back I feel, didn't win the break ball enough from their long kick outs and from that Tipp looked like really opening up the Antrim defence.  They really could have had another couple of goals themselves.  Tougher tests await but decent start

Small crowd at the game, know it was going to overlap with the ulster final so probably should have thrown in an hour earlier.

I think McAleer had a groin injury (or somewhere round there). He went off pointing at that and was going well enough before then. Good player and was playing very well.

Keenan is a real warrior - probably our best player and Jordan, as usual, no far behind.

You could also see we were obviously instructed at half time to move the ball quicker and once we did that caused them problems.Still can be exposed at the back I think too. Sweeney and the no. 18 always going to left foot and seemed to be allowed to but all in all it was a decent performance. Sweeney and the likes of O'Brien made that a much better Tipp team than had been there before.

I think the Wexford game is a big one for us. Sligo are possibly a bit ahead of us so it's the one we need and they're not bad.
