Good post AZ - nice to see a non-United fan post something sensible. And in truth, what you've said is how most United fans with any cop on see it and the vast majority here. It's a work in progress, not pretty a lot of the time, but there are signs of progress.

I was listening to an interesting discussion this morning about Everton and how their supporters were unhappy last season with loads of possession but no cutting edge. Difference this season has been Deulofeu (top class) and more importantly - Lukaku has learned his role and is playing it to a tee. Last season he kept coming short looking for the ball (Rooney) and pretty much getting in the way. The striker in the modern game needs to use his pace to get down the channels (Vardy) and time his runs in the box (Lukaku brilliant at this now).

What do you think of Lukaku? He was poor against us but his goalscoring record is very impressive and he's still only 22. He's going to cost the best part of £50m but he's one of the few strikers who's gettable. Everton won't want to sell but Lukaku and his agent have been vocal about moving if a bigger club came in for him.

He's a physical presence and if United did buy him would mean the end for Fellaini. We've been linked with Aubamayang at Dortmund, he'd cost similar money is a lot older and never played in this league. I'm not sure we'd suit him either given the way we play.

I think Van Gaal has made a decent start. I think he has concentrated on making them very hard to beat, and very machine like. I don't think they play off the cuff at all any more, and that is why United fans themselves have been harsh on him.

They are second in the table, probably going through to the next round of the Champions league, and I'd take that in a heartbeat if I was a United fan.

That said, I think he's on a journey with this club, and where he is now is not the destination. The next step is obviously to start scoring more goals and being more confident in his players in an attacking sense. But I'm sure he's thinking that too, and will continue to evolve in that sense.

So I think he's in the process of doing a good job, and as a Liverpool fan, I'm not happy he's there, but he hasn't completed the job by a long chalk just yet.

If they question is, is he getting the most out of the players he has bought, I would say at the moment the answer is probably no, but when he finishes I expect he will do.

Agree with the majority of what you've written but too many United fans are deluded about the football we played under Fergie, it hasn't been great since 2009.

You're been harsh with your comment about is he getting the best out of the players he's bought, Di Maria is really the only one that can be questioned. Martial & Depay are young and lack experience and are always going to be inconsistent because of their age and that their new to the league and they've both come into a United side in transition. Shaw started off the season superbly, Blind has played well and Rojo looks a better player this season, Herrera is a very good player but because of the way we play with 2 defensive minded midfielders he's not played as often as he could, i do think that he'll turn into a brilliant player for us once LVG has finished with him.  Schnederlin has done well in most games as has Schweinsteiger and Darmian had a very good start but his performances have dipped recently.

Add a Rooney of 5 years ago to the current team and we'd be top of the league with between 3-5 more points. We're one top player away from winning the league or going really close to winning it.

This time next year I'd expect a lot more from Shaw, Martial, Schnederlin, Herrera & Depay in terms of performances.

I don't think he's getting the best out of Rojo, Blind and Herrera. Also Depay. But as I said, I expect as his pattern gets established and he starts putting the attacking end of things in order (and gets rid of Rooney) that we will look much more favourably on all or most of those.

Rojo is a backup player, he's done well based on that. Blind has been 1st choice this season and has played very well, I'd have him as a backup if everyone was fit but in fairness I'm not sure how much more you can expect from him. Depay will improve, its very rare any player under the age of 21 has come in and been consistent in his first season. Herrera is the one where you've got a point, everytime we've played well he's been in the team, he's a firm fans favourite but i can see why he's not a favourite of LVG yet. If Herrera can become a bit more disciplined and cut out the odd error he makes he'll become 1st choice. I'd play him in the no 10 position this year out of necessity but thats not his natural position.

Net spend is for accountants.  The quality of what is brought in is all that counts.  If LVG brought in a team to win the league and it cost £500m no one on here would give a f**k.

Exactly. Judge a manager on what he spends....

OK. So Brendan Rodgers and Van Gaal spent the same. Who has done a better job?

Don't feed the chimps

He has an unhealthy obsession with United.

Hello again MM......I see you are still spouting absolute crap?

Thought you would have learned from the last time....

No unhealthy obsession with UTD.........sometimes you need to call bullshit when you see it (again!)

Obviously you feel its your duty to mask over the actual monies spent by LVG...

Good man.......you doing a great job!

Sorry missed the bit in bold above......

My argument is not about who has done a better job?

I am simply trying to state that any one manager needs to be held accountable for the actual money he spends a not rely on a net figure to deflect away from this point

Brendan Rogers made some terrible signings at huge money......needs to be held accountable

Ferguson, Mourinho, Wenger, LVG all guilty of the same.....

Gary Neville new Valencia head coach.

That's mad Ted!
It will be interesting to see if his knowledge of the game and tactics are as good in real life as what comes across when he is on the TV.
Carra and him were very good at times so that double act will be missed.

Don't be offended.United fans don't like it when someone offers a differing opinion.
Apparently  posts from non united fans are only sensible when they agree with said post.
Anything else and you're a chimp and on the wind up apparently.

Btw someone asked the question comparing Rodgers and LVG and who has done a better job.
Rodgers nearly won the league in his second season as manager. We'll see how close LVG gets to it in his second season before we can compare.

I am a United fan and have no problem with non United fans comments at all, they are entitled to their opinions but I think less of what Liverpool fans think because they are United haters and usually have extreme bias in their posts, United fans the same way on Liverpool. absolutely no perspective.

LVG has Unite playing the most boring football I have ever seen a United team play in my lifetime, it is brutal to watch and although I despise Giggs, he would have them playing the United way of Old.
