This Cardiologist doesn't care either in having the balls to push back.

Life expectancy has been extended by 10 years in the last few decades thanks to medication.
We can treat disease now in a way never thought possible in the 70s or 80s.
🤔 Life span v Health span. Which is better. A friend of mine has 3 nursing homes filled with people who barely feed themselves or wipe their own arse! So it's all good. Bravo to the system!

Thats a can of worms. Not for this thread but from a personal perspective I would rather clock out "early" when I still have my full faculties rather than just survive in an home for years. Happy to save my grandkids and children a few quid as well.  I would have no issue with companies like Dignitas etc operating here, obviously under proper regulations and controls.

I read somewhere recently he is on a five year deal for the same money as Diaz is on. Dangers of a desperate buyer although to be fair Liverpool have not got stung too often recently.

I think he is on £60k/pw which is probably what I would have expected, just though Diaz would be on a lot more.

Diaz would be on double that at least

I would have thought that as well but not according to media at the time of the deal. I would say if he keeps his form up a renegotiation is likely this year like they did with Salah/VVD etc

Ben Davies on 60k a week? Not a chance.

I am just going by what I have seen online with all the usual caveats but thats the only figure I have seen quoted.

Minamino gone to Monaco - 15m euro plus add-ones

Good deal for all concerned...seem like a good fella but just never going to get games with the bucks in front of him

He didnt play an awful lot, but got some improtant goals particularly in the cup run. Bought for around 7m and sold for 15m after 2 years of beinga solid squad player is decent enough business.

Completely agree. He has moved on, Sadio, Divock, likely that big Nat, Neco and Ben Davies go too. That frees up the guts of £350k per week salaries wise. Nunez is £100k the 2 young lads a drop into that,  maybe a contract for Mo is not out of the question....

Did Ben Davis ever kick a ball for the Liverpool first team?

Not competitively. Played a pre-season game I think. His fee that was paid out has been recouped through the loan fee from last season so any money made on a sale is profit. Small money but still like likely to be £3-5m

Would like to see a midfielder like Tielemens come in as well on the assumption Bellingham is not available but I would not be convinced that is the end of it, especially if Ox/Minamino and Neco all leave. It leaves us with a central midfield panel of

Hendo
Thiago
Fab
Jones
Naby
Milner

I am not including Elliott and Carvahlo as they are more attacking options. On paper it looks fine but a long term injury to Fab/Thiago/Hendo and it could get tight.

Jones needs to step up this year and become a real option for an extended run but I would be concerned about a lack of goals from midfield, especially when teams park the bus.

Read an article this morning that the Tories won't go any further with this new Brexit bill ripping up the protocol unless the DUP nominate a first minister.

If the DUP don't go back into government with the Bill going through Westminster then there's no point to it as it doesn't solve the issues that the Torys think it will.

DUP need to be careful on this one as if they do go back then the bill mightn't pass or get watered down so much that it's useless, but once again Jeffrey has backed the DUP into a corner with no easy way out..
Who is behind the DUP ? They are  more extremist than the ERG. Why? DUP voters totally ignored.

Dont think Sir Jeffrey would want you to pull at that thread.......

Same as above really I'd say bring a few disposable BBQ's as they have an area out the back for it.

Not sure if you have to book the swimming pool but it's first class and make sure you don't miss out.

Depends on the kids ages what to book really. There's a pedal boat job if they're young or a kayak if a bit older which are good craic. It's first class you should really enjoy it.

I'm not sure on the prices for the week but I heard its expensive, Would the camps in France be similar in price or more expensive? No offence to Longford and its surrounding areas which are lovely but weather wise and campsites I'd rather pay that bit extra.. The price for a family of 4 in July is nearly £3000 at Centrepark in Longford

That seems expensive of the activities and food is extra.
Booked a week all inclusive in Turkey, July peak season £4500. Huge big resort waterpark etc.

Where about in Turkey Trailer and is it for a family of 4? A friend of mine was there a couple of years ago at a all inclusive resort with water park and said it was unreal but I think he paid about half that though!  :o Wondering if prices have increased that much!

Someone said to me recently that it might be cheaper to heat the hot water with immersion heater (Electric) in summer when no other oil is needed rather than put (now expensive) oil on for 30-40mins in morning and evening for hot water. I thought this sounded wrong but don't have the expertise to figure it out. Anyone any idea.

I came from a home where if you left the immersion heater on by accident you got a right big slap! :)

That will probably be the way to go. Keep as much oil as you can heading into the autumn/winter.

Put a solar panel on the roof, great job.

Has anyone here any experience of solar water heating tubes on the roof? Would be interested to know cost/payback on those. My house is pretty well insulated so the heat does not be on from April to about October usually. But between us the hot water requirements is probably four showers a dau on average. At the minute the water is all oil heated so I a thinking those tubes might be good for summer?

I'm still not sure what the rule is. You have to be 13m away from the kicker when free is taken but could you run 12m towards the kicker say and pick it up one meter away from them?  The quoted rule doesn't really answer the issue.

Personally if he's 13m away and manages to sprint 12m when the ball is played then play on!!

So the "fake" soccer corner routine is legal? Say you have a 20 yard free in the last minute 2 points down with all opposition team on the goalline. Player A just drops the ball onto his toe and walks on. Player B coming like a train from 20 yards behind him could chip the ball up and take a blast at goal from a lot closer? Depending how switched on the defenders were and if they thought Player A was leaving the ball for B, they might not even have moved from the line?  :D :D

Unless business to business, under EU law you must quote retail prices inciusive of VAT. Dunno if there's an out for UK businesses operating outside EU now, but I doubt it.

Some outlets will state on bills what the VAT amount is that's included in the figures.. So maybe that's what MR saw ie 'VAT amount included above is XX' but not extra VAT added on.

That is the most likely scenario. Hotels/restaurants need to quote the VAT on receipt for things like employee expenses etc

Robbo misses Chelsea now (unless that ends up being postponed)

A blow but Tsikmas has been a capable deputy. I would be more concerned about the FA trying to shoehorn the game in midweek January when the Afcon is on. Although with the Caraboa cup 2 legs there will be few dates available.

That was very enjoyable but how come Kelleher allowed to be so far off his line when saving those 2 penos?

I thought that and then looked at the replays. He has got the technique of keeping one foot on the line and then hurling himself forward down to a tee. The couple I looked at he had a foot behind the line when the ball was struck.

Good to get through last night but 2 extra games in Jan isnt ideal.....

got my 1st covid jab yesterday afternoon (Moderna) only side effect so far is a sore arm. had flu jab last week and have to get the pneumonia jab in a couple of weeks as well due to it being in my lungs when I had Covid.
would have been a hell of a lot easier to have got the Covid jab when I should have earlier in the year.

How's the energy levels Clar if you don't mind me asking?

I have improved a good bit and people say I look healthier but at same time I only walk from room to room or a bit outside the house as I don't want to push it. Going up the stairs is still a real killer. It's just going to take time but my aim is to try and start doing 15-20 min walks in January and see how that goes.

That's tough Clar. What age are you if its not too personal? A  cousin of mine (41) had Covid in the summer and while he did not really have too much bother other than a couple of days feeling fluey he was grand. However he would have been a big runner and he says he cant get back to anywhere near the pace he was at pre Covid. He was doing 10ks in about 42 minutes pre covid and now he is at about 47minutes. I think when he went back at it a month post Covid he was up at 50 minutes+. I realise it does not come close to what you are going through but shows that the impact can linger even if you think you only get a mild dose of teh virus at the time.

Now that we have put categories on those in Hospital should we broaden our horizons.

Heavy Drinkers, smokers and even lazy fat f***s. All these have been taking up ICU beds for years.

Time to stigmatise  them. Show them the errors of their ways!

I was not actually getting at that, it was a genuine question I would be interested in the answer to.

Gavan Reilly
@gavreilly
Updated figures from HPSC, for 7 days to last Saturday:

Total ICU admissions 48
of whom 23 fully vaccinated, 5 partly, 20 unvaccinated

Total deaths notified* 45
of whom 41 fully vaccinated, 4 partly, 0 unvaccinated

(* Often include lag, so may reflect deaths occurring earlier)

Have you the rest of the information on that? what age they were what were their underlying conditions and so on please

Mean age of those who have died is 83 and I can imagine most at that age would have underlying conditions.

If thats true (not questioning it btw) and typical across an extended period  it just shows that death stats are pretty irrelevant. Not to downplay the personal impact on individual families but if I make it to 83 I would count myself as having done all right and if Covid is the final straw then so be it.

I would be more interested in what proportion of the ICU beds are taken up by unvaccinated.
