Anybody keep a count of the kickouts we (Tyrone) won today. Thought that we played second fiddle around the middle for long periods. Some of Devine's kickouts were brutal.

Correct. At the end of the day, he's there to make the most of the resources he has to make a successful team. He's not there to make friends with players. Seems to be working out OK so far and long may it continue.
He could probably manage them from home then (through his intermediary).

I'm not knocking Mickey (how could anyone?) but I just think that Cavanagh's "Jekyll and Hyde" comments are a sad indictment of a management setup that we have come to regard as perfect.  But then Cavanagh regarded his captaining of the Aussie Rules team as a greater honour than winning the All Ireland.

For real- just don't know what Sean will say next... last week on about Tyrone players on the breadline... lives in a bit of  a parallel universe at times

Canavagh gets caught up in the heat of the moment and says a lot of silly things.
Could Cavanagh be described as the "Jekyll and Hyde" of Tyrone football?

I think Jekyll & Hyde means one is approachable and one isn't.
I would not count it as a sad indictment of a management team. I think the manager needs to keep his distance. As has already been said, he is not there to make friends. Keeping a distance means it will be easier to make the tough decisions such as telling players they are dropped for an All-Ireland final (hope he has that decision to make again). :
If he is too close he could end up showing too much loyalty to those he is friendliest with and those players will over time learn how far they can push the boundaries and how much they can get away with. If they do not have a cosy relationship with their manager they will be less likely to try it on.

There is a very wide gap between unapproachability (eg not speaking to a key player in two years) and closeness .

Incidentally the following is a quote from Wikipedia "it has become a part of the language, with the phrase "Jekyll and Hyde" coming to mean a person who is vastly different in moral character from one situation to the next"
(and that's me done on the subject)

SC: "You'd imagine he would be an approachable kind of guy, but he can be a hard enough fella to speak to.  In Tyrone we have the whole Jekyll and Hyde management because Mickey is very much into psychology. He can be a hard man at times because he keeps players at a distance. We have another guy, Tony Donnelly, who works with Mickey and is a massive players' guy. A lot of guys would go to him before Mickey Harte."

Strange way for a manager to behave towards players especially one who's supposed to be the greatest thing since "sliced bread" but bears out the stories we have been hearing that he is virtually unapproachable. When Mugsy was going thru his bad patch reportedly said that MH hadn't spoken to him for 2 years.
But who am I to criticise a man who has done what he has done. (I am truly sorry).

Is Kyle Coney injured or in Australia?

Home, recovering after an operation on his shoulder.

Not far away from a return I hear. Believe he will be ready for League after the hols.

How'd Edendork Moortown go?

Moortown won by 4. Play Greencastle in the next round.

What's the story on PJ Quinn - he was in distress and getting attention from Physio every 5 - 10 minutes. He also limped off at the end. Mind you - he was the class act on view.

what does ec unique think on the matter?

Was at the game.

I thought the standard of play was poor especially in both forward lines. Coalisland will really be kicking themselves as Dromore were there for the taking and only for some very poor shooting and decision making up front they could have won.

If Errigal were playing Dromore next week in the Championship I would be confident of a win, but they are not and God only knows when it will happen. Dromore need to and will will improve and it should be a great contest.

What did people think of Dunmoyle and is there anything that should have been done different from our point of view?

Agree with EC. Two poor games but two deserving winners.
Thought that facilities and organisation were excellent but a pity about the access. And I realise that EVEN Errigal Ciaran can't arrange the weather which ruined the last 10 minutes for players and spectators alike.

So imagine if Kyle Coney, or Peter Harte played junior football and were injured for the Junior Championship. You'd have them in the div 3 reserve championship. Would that be a mis match.

This rule was brought in a number of years ago when Declan McCrossan played in the reserve Cship, and a number of clubs raised objections.

You could also imagine if Sean Cavanagh or Brian Dooher played Junior football - get a grip man. And I didn't realise that Kyle Coney and Peter Harte were minors this year. Were they injured for the Armagh game?

Welcome to the board DCR. I don't need to imagine if Brian Dooher played junior football... he already has. I didn't say that KC and PH were minors this year. I was refering to last year, and the fact that they were probably the strongest individuals in that squad.

Thanks for the Welcome Norf Tyrone; nice to meet someone with good manners.  However I am still struggling to understand the point that you are making about last year's minors but that is probably my fault. Anyway the question I have asked is "Is this ruling a National one or just something confined to Tyrone"?.

I would have thought that one of the key objectives of Reserve Football is to develop younger players (including County Minors) who are not yet able to hold down a place particularly at strong Senior Clubs, (as opposed to auld fellows who are on the downward slope). Is this a National Ruling or just another Tyrone anomaly by so called "do gooders." Also not much chance of "burnout" for any of the Tyrone minor squad this year (Unfortunately)

Any truth in story going around that 2009 County Minors cannot play Reserve Championship. Heard that Derrylaughan had to concede after they played Ciaran Gervin.

"EC Unique" conveniently overlooks the fact that ArdBo were without John McConville and Frank McGuigan. And Kyle Coney is not that very far off a return.
