GAA Discussion / Re: Armagh v Wicklow

Grimley having a go at Brolly shows how bitter he is. And how pathetic he is. Looks like he has listened to him though given the way Armagh were set up today. The sooner he moves on the better. Sorry but he's not the right man for Armagh football.

Nothing to do with the ref, macha.  Horrible defensive strategy, especially with those personnel, and Cavan took advantage with much crisper play.  Just dismal.

I agree. As per my post

So is Paul Grimley as tactically poor as that performance suggests?  All of the talk over the years suggested that he was the force behind the Monaghan resurgence under McEneaney, he was the tactical driving force behind Joe Kernan during the early 00's .... something that appears to have little foundation after that debacle today.

I'm afraid that this was a nonsense that was bandied about a lot. Amazing how no one but Grimley deserved any credit. Kernan, mceneany, geezer Etc. look at his record as a manager.... McKenna cup, league and championship. He has no nous. I have never called for the head of an Armagh manger before but I feel this is too important to let go. We have minors and other players who need taught, leadership and a style of play that is neither naive nor headless chicken-ism.

Clarke will be on a flight away this week, doesn't wana be there at all

Ah shut up. The boo boys always crawl out when a team loses. Clarke did as much as he could with two to three men marking him at all times. No support, same as last year.

Cop on. Management let him down. Not about boo boys you muppet it's about passion for the Armagh cause and that was awful leadership.

Did you even read the post I was responding to?

Did you read mine?? Muppet. Be realistic and accept that it was managements fault. I agree Clarke had no chance. Ask yourself why and stop attacking people who speak their mind.

Fair play to Martin McHugh who said it as it was. Deegan had a nightmare. Cavan deserved the win but referees are generally inept and that is contributing to general negativity

Awful performance by Armagh team and management. And I need not say anything about the embarrassment Deegan brought upon himself. Absolutely disgusted all round.

Grimley is so clueless he has nothing to say to the failing team at half time???? Joker

This is an utter disgrace. Management don't appear to have a clue. Naive to say the least. I've watched this crap all year so far and it's the same pathetic result each time. Grimley has neither the vision nor intellect to manage a county team.

Goodbye and good riddance. Pure unadulterated tr**p on the GAA field. What he did on McEntee in particular shows how much he thought of himself, others, his teammates and the GAA. Goodnight sleep tight.

Funny enough this sort of anti northerner abuse does happen. I was umpiring for a club I play for in Dublin in the league. The opposition goalie and umpire both gave the whole nine yards for being a Brit etc. I threatened to report it and was promptly apologised to. Turns out the umpire has an All Ireland football medal for the dubs!! While the apology was sincere I was utterly shocked at the behaviour. I have played in dublin for 12 yrs now and this was the only, but serious, abuse I got.

Justin mcnulty has let himself down badly if it turns out that Sheehan incited any sort of anti northern sentiment. He is inexperienced and probably out of his depth. This is the sort of thing along with the standard of refereeing that needs to be looked at in hq.

Saddened.

You see this is part of the problem we face. Condoning actions such as head butting. As the poster rightly puts it the ref made a decision ... The rules do not support that sort of behaviour by players ir refs. The fact is that part of the serious problem we face is the lack of proper application of the rules for events such as this. I agree that it would/could have spoilt the game that early on but where does this pup get off throwing the head, connection or no. I cannot and will not condone any play acting, another blight on our games in recent years. But serious foul play such as that is not condoned in any sport to my kind, boxing, mma , soccer, darts, tiddlywinks or gaa sports. As someone who suffered such in incident I know the effects. can anyone explain how the ref came to a yellow card? I really feel that this is a disgusting situation that the ref has condoned!!

I feel really strongly that this ref was a shocking disgrace. I think he shows a serious problem in our games. I admire anyone who takes on this role but after playing for nearly 27 years and now at the end of my career I am firmly if the view that "give respect get respect" starts with proper communication and application of the rules.

I really look forward to another battle of two great teams fully loaded with players that will pit themselves at each other in a fair but hard way, extolling the virtues and skills of our games to the highest level. May the best team win (and their counties soon see the benefits of having their players back) but lets hope none of us are talking about any pathetic referees like we saw today.

Ps there was also an incident in the hurling where loughgeil got a point that was clearly very wide. We were right behind it and I am glad it didn't have a bearing on the game's outcome, but how long do we need to go on facing poor officiating before we use cheap and simple technology that does not interfere with our games?

Ref'ing madness. No championship games I hope for that fool.

To be quite honest I am absolutely disgusted at the state of referring in today's game. From start to finish he displayed the standard I expect of an inexperienced and untried ref. this is not a pro cross stance or a pro GC stance. He was utterly terrible. Our games are coming under serious strain with such displays. Fans get frustrated. Players do not know what the hell is going on. I really feel that the gaa need to step up to the mark and stop this nonsense. Too often they back refs who have no idea in order to protect them. They are a dying breed after all - who'd do it??. We need to look at this though. Do we need train our refs properly? Punish them if they are terrible; have two refs to cope with the pace and physicality of our games? I am sorry but what went today nearly spoilt a cracking game . Well played to both teams. Unlucky to the two lads who got sent off.  paul kernan seemed to be the victim of 'balancing' so innocuous. Neither lad deserved red.

But what about number 10 for gc? How insane was he to headbut in front of the ref? How shocking was the ref not to send him off? What was the yellow for? Attempting to strike with the head is a straight red? What if any explanation can be given for the ref's yellow? Cop out? That eejit should not see any championship games this year. Stop him from spoiling a summer for any county team please. A disgrace! Might seem harsh but i have had my fill of some poor refs. Listen to the RTE commentary for the between the lines querying if his performance.

Replay seems somewhat fair as neither team deserved to lose.

GAA Discussion / Re: Down V Armagh - Newry 26th Feb
February 27, 2011, 12:45:04 AM
some of the posts from the Down people are a little far fetched.  Some of the boasting coming out of the ground was unbelievable too.  That was a good game which Down probably on balance deserved, but catch yourselve on if you think that was an easy 1 point win.  Armagh hit 5 wides in a row after going one up and then went on to miss a goal chance one on one.  While ye were missing players some of those mentioned came off the bench.  None of our "missing" players came off the bench.  Waken up!

IMO Armagh easily won the battle of the Midfielders, though Down easily won 90% of breaking ball and fair pay to them for that.  We don't have foragers in that area.  While I am not a fan, Martin O'Rourke was great at that aspect of the game and is a loss for this ONLY.

Billy Joe Started well but unlike other posters I was glad to see him go off as his work rate dropped and passing faltered.  Grugan does look like a real prospect but I agree that he is light and lacks a wee bit of confidence in the physical stakes (which is fair enough at 19/20 in the modern game).  MOR looks a little out of his depth at times and I am a little concerned with the HF line generally.  Never was I so glad to see Mal Mackin not start.  He is a disaster.  FULL STOP.

There are prospects and much to be happy with but unless Armagh are (like Down tonight and Tyrone have been) more considerate of their shot selection and passing out of defence (how many fist passes went astray?) anddevelop a means to win dirty ball then it is gong to be another disappointing championship.  ARD MMHACHA GO DEO!!

I have read this thread in its entirety.  I cannot add more to what has been said. Shocked and saddened.
