Fun fact: Li will never ever be a big name in golf.

Aye, my mate and I discussed that on the day. Shefflers caddy seemed to hang back so I'm assuming he was taking the score. There was one particular hole where Sheffler was almost at the next teebox when Li was lining up his putt (and there was absolutely no line of sight between them, not that he was looking in that direction anyway).

I was working on the 8th hole, there is a tunnel 20 yards away from green to get players to 9th. Not a chance Sheffler would have went down the tunnel as Li, Fitz, Shane were holing out.

No, he didnt do it there at the 8th/9th. I was at every hole and he did it at least 3 times on Saturday. I wasnt there on Sunday but I saw him do it at least once on the TV coverage.

Quote from: Link on July 21, 2025, 09:20:19 AMDo you mean leaving the green and going to next tee box?

Most, if not all, golfers left the green, stood to the side then walk as soon as the flag is in but i don't think Scheffler would have been standing on his own at the next tee box well ahead of his playing partner(s) and the caddies.

Absolutely. I've been to a lot of golf tournaments and I've never seen a player leaving the greenside before his playing partners had holded out. He was 100% well on his way to the next teebox before his playing partner holed out (on more than one occaision on Saturday). I saw it with my own eyes and it was very noticable because I'd never seen it happening before.

An Watcher

Surely in this day and age lads there'd be plenty of tv footage of this?  Also there'd be plenty willing to call him out on it too

You'd think so but they often cut away as soon as the last player putts and they show his score. Sky dont seem to ruffle many feathers where Sheffler is concerned.

Damn Sky. In the pocket of Big Scheffler!

How could any player sign for a score if he didn't watch it happen?

Something not adding up with this "complaint".

Simple answer is, he cant, or he shouldnt. His caddy seemed to be the one watching the score. You say there's something not adding up. Can you be more specific? Do you think I'm hallucinating or something? I spoke to my friend there and he said it was the 4th hole yesterday where you saw him walking on whilst Li was lining up the putt. I'm just pointing out what I saw (more than once). You can believe it or not, it doesnt matter to me.

Bord na Mona man

I was up there yesterday and despite the outcome being a foregone conclusion it was a great event.  Had ROARAY been in contention, the place would have gone berserk. At least Shane Lowry gave his fans plenty of cheers.

The scale of the event was huge, but the organisation was top drawer and it ran smoothly. There was never any queues or a sense that the venue has been swamped. It's massive for the region and there was people from all over the globe there.  I'd say there wasn't a spare bed within an hour's reach of the venue.

Given the scale of what the Open now is, Portrush should be well positioned to stay on the roster. Other traditional venues like Muirfield and Lytham are now too small for what is now a 400k attended week.

Portmarnock will also have it's work cut out convincing them they can run it on a peninsula with scant infrastructure.

Strange take, it's on bus routes, dart and train line and close to the airport...

If it's the course itself your on about I suggest you look on Google earth, the land area they have is massive.

Can see his point in fairness. There is only one narrow road in and out. But as you say , it's not stuck for non-car transport options. Dart is walking distance.

Same as almost every other golf course .... What did you expect a dual carriageway into the car park?
