I'm surprised there aren't more top drawer interested candidates - they have a few problem areas in the team, but have a top class forward unit

It's probably more of a reflection on the dearth of available quality managers though..

Why not get a good organised young hungry man in there for 5 or 6 years of stability to rebuild it with no respect for reputations and who doesn't care about the muppets in the Co. Board and just gets on with winning rather than a man in for 2 or 3 years and keep recycling them like other counties breeding insecurity and nervousness?
The longer it goes on the more likely they are to get landed with a doddery old journey man like a Dempsey and the longer it goes on the more likely no-hopers like Hayes and disilliousned people like Carr think they have a chance rather than someone of qaulaity.
Everyone knows now that whoever is selected was not the first choice and is just being given it because they are running out of time while other counties have had the first team meetings for the winter already!
Sad, laughable stuff from the so-called self proclaimed royal county.

Post of the day, and thought for the week.  Meath should always attarct a half decent list of candidates and maybe there nothing but crap managers about.  My best approach would be Boylan for 5 years.

On an unrelated note, did you hear about the ex-Louth boss now managing a high profile Dublin club who went into the losers dressing room after a recent SFC game and congratulated the mentors on the great job they were doing with the 'underprivileged' people in the area?

Is that Paddy Carr you are talking about?

He is the one that hit colm O' Rourke a sly slap during a row in the county final in 1984 ( I think) and then embarrassingly ran away being followed by O' Rourke around the goal posts. School playground stuff.

It is an indication of how bad things have become in the search for a manager that he is being considered for the  job. As ar as I recall he took charge of our minors a few years ago and didnt play two players widely regarded to be the best in the county. Please, please, please no.

Our current chairman maybe has good intentions but he needs to get his act together very very soon as this has become a complete farce. I think peopleare so pissed off with the whole thing that they have gone beyond caring.

There must be nothing more embarassing than running away from someone as yellow as O'Rourke! What shade of yellow would that leave you?! lol!

It's true though that the longer this goes on the worse it gets ... whoever said bring back Boylan for 5 years may not be that far wrong ... it might be the best option - I never thought I'd hear myself saying that ever!

Actually I'd give it to Andy McEntee

someone as yellow as O'Rourke!

Nonsense.
while I wouldnt say he was yellow, but he certainly didnt like getting hit and wasnt a man for fighting
he's a level or two above brolly in the yellow streak stakes !

I'd also like to see either mcEntee or Nelson.

Barry could have been good but too many clashes now to have him back. Maybe in the future again... 5 - 10 years time
..........

Who likes getting hit? "Not a man for fighting" puts him somewhere on the yellow scale?

Not a man for fighting = not a thug.

I saw O'Rourke take what I think were the two hardest hits I ever saw. (1) From Barry Coffey vs. Cork in the drawn AIF 1n 1988. He got up and played on. (2) From Keith Barr in the final game vs. Dublin in 1991. He was carried off unconscious. He returned five minutes later and played a blinder while concussed. (Famous spake on the sideline - "hold the sub, Seán, he's coming round"). He never pulled out of a clash. He came on in the AIF of 1994 with pneumonia and nearly won the game single-handed.

O'Rourke is a lot of things. Yellow is not one of them.

stephenite

Nobody is going to take this seriously - but Meath should ask John Maughan, could do and are probably about to do a lot worse.

thats not how he was views in club football at least ...a good man to throw a punch from the blind side, but run off afterwards
..........

Hardy

I never saw him run (or punch from the blind side). I'd have no interest in "how he was viewed" - means nothing. It'd be a bit much to suggest he hit slyly and ran unless you saw it yourself. If you did - grand. Anyway LB, I'm not getting into a long debate with you. I've presented my evidence. Let the jury decide. I'm off on the skite now for the day - son's graduation.

heffo

He would never have struck me as the yellow type.

I seen him ship (and give out) some very big hits and get back up and play - especially in the Cork games in the late 80's and games against Dublin.

I never seen him play club football, so can't comment on LB's point..

lynchbhoy

ach its just opinions , and its not just my own - its from how the lads in the club saw him inc those who played intercounty with orourke
yeah, I did see it, but the guy did take a hell of a lot of punishment himself.
As mentioned hes a couple of levels above brolly and he's no thug/scrapper.
however he is a bollix/bad loser.

Rem myself and clubmates were somewhat jealous of orourke and his club shampionship winning side, so theres no doubt some green tint there !

Heff - Plunkets to win on monday ?
will be hard stopped.
