This is a very positive development featuring in to-day's Irish News, which details how Linfield's goalkeeping coach has been helping both Down's and Armagh's goalkeepers, though principally Down's (what a pity his efforts will all come to grief on Sunday week ;D).

He is hugely impressed with the "professional" approach of the GAA (in terms of analysis etc) and thinks the players are very well looked after, in comparison to Irish League players.

Rumours that Marco Materazzi and Cannavaro have been coaching the Down full back line are greatly exaggerated though ;D

The fact that he has recently coached manus (sp?) to international level must be an indication of his talent as a coach. However he also coached greg shannon, possibly the worst  keeper ever to play in that league. :D
On another note, i'd say that battery farm chickens are better looked after than most irish league players.

was spot on about Hearty. Susceptible to shots, high balls, basically the ball coming in his direction etc. Thats one sure achilles heel in the Armagh rearguard.

Yes I Would

Pity he couldn't have "saved" that last minute goal in Ballybofey last year.

As regards his point "save" last Sunday, that was impressive alright and probably finally knocked the heart out of Cavan. I have often thought of the merit of teams deploying a player with exceptional balancing/tightrope walking skills for the purpose of standing on the bar for frees/45s etc and averting points conceded. Anyone else think this would be a good idea? ;D

Eamon Connolly and Benny Tierney are the down and armagh keeper coaches respectively

It would be, except I read in a programme last year that its actually against the rules. :D

wat about lifting a player up like they do in rugby lineouts?

Yes - I've often wondered is there anything in the rule-book preventing lifting like in the rugby line-out. I think it would be class if someday, out of the blue, the two corner-backs hoisted the full back up and he pulled a forty-five out of the sky about ten feet above the crossbar.

I wonder what would the ref do? Paddy Russell wouldn't notice, probably. Bannon would give a free out. McEnaney would wave play on but he'd be standing in the square for the next 45 to make sure he was on camera. Kinneavy would book the keeper. Collins would run around the field turning lads around to look at their number, even though they all have their numbers on the front now.

He would give a free in if it meant there may be a reply from the resulting freekick,or play away then blow for full time to allow a reply or extra time to prove HE indeed is the man in CONTROL!!!! :D

Duffy would Book everyone, including the ball.

Ricey Mc Menamin would flap the ball on over the bar, with Mugsy and his scraper awaiting his return to earth ;D
