Given the claim culture in Ireland, perhaps the bigger wtf is that they weren't just paid out automatically.

A drunken raccoon has been found passed out at the scene of a "break-in" at an off-licence in the US.

Staff at the liquor shop in Virginia arrived at work on Saturday morning to find bottles smashed amid puddles of scotch and whiskey.

They worried they had been burgled, before spotting the animal asleep on the bathroom floor.

Hanover County Animal Protection and Shelter confirmed one of its animal control officers, Samantha Martin, had been called to the "chaotic scene".

"Upon arrival, she discovered the 'suspect' had broken in, ransacked several shelves, and then ... passed out in the bathroom," the shelter said in a social media post.

Bizarre this: this morning media announced that Manchester United and WBA star Remi Moses had died. Not so however...
I remember Ulster Herald did that with an SDLP councillor from Carrickmore.. front page it was. His death was greatly exaggerated.

There's no money in the coffers, but a refurbished Stormont canteen is a top priority ffs.

FFS, reading that, this is worse than the 300k bike shed.

£28k on 'Project Management Services' - for refurbing a bloody canteen

Fair play to them. The magic money tree exists so cant blame anyone filling their boots.

Milltown Row2

Its crazy money but I'm tired of hearing politicians and others complaining that the money should be spent of health and education and homes and so on..

They have spunked every penny that has come in here from over there on worse things than a kitchen, and for a politician to complain is just pure brass neck, its them feckers which are spending the money!
None of us are getting out of here alive, so please stop treating yourself like an after thought.

AustinPowers

Yep, piss away  money time and again. Doing nothing about the  absolute waste,  yet want more

But in the end , we'll all pay more. Water charges, prescriptions etc . Just so that more money is available for them  to piss up a wall . And nothing will change, nothing will improve

We don't have any money they cry constantly...

Well people on the street aren't exactly paying less tax so where has it all gone...

DaleCooper

https://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/business/northern-ireland/companies-which-have-made-millions-from-delayed-a5-road-scheme/a7817510.html

The companies which have earned millions of pounds from the long-delayed A5 road scheme can today be revealed.
In one case, an infrastructure firm received more than £60m in consultancy fees.

Another contractor company has collected over £20m.

The total spend to date on the project - which was originally given the go-ahead in 2007, but has yet to start - has topped £150m.

The 58-mile road from Derry to Aughnacloy, Co Tyrone, has been hit by a series of delays.

It was approved again by the Executive in October last year, with the final cost now estimated at £1.7bn.

However, spending on the project has continued to rise, and now stands at £153.7m.

This includes £80.6m on consultants, £56.3m on contractors' fees, £5.8m on geotechnical and archaeology investigations and £5.7m on land costs.

In response to a Freedom of Information request, the department has now revealed the biggest earners from the scheme.

In our request, we asked for a list of those who had received £1m or more.

The biggest recipient is Mouchel Limited, which was later acquired by the WSP Group. Mouchel/WSP has received £63.8m in consultancy fees - more than a third of the total expenditure to date.

Three sets of contractors' fees were paid out to companies which collaborated at various stages of the project.

Around £11m was paid as part of a joint venture between Balfour Beatty, BAM and FP McCann for section one of the scheme, between New Buildings and Sion Mills.

In fairness, I don't think it's the companies' fault that the project keeps stalling. Surely it's right they get paid for work already put in.
