My impression is that people can't stop talking about the inexplicable dublin bias in the meeja, andwith good reason.

i wish the dubs would actually do something to justify the bumbing and blowing we have to listen to on a consistent basis.

The media is based in Dublin, Dulblin is the capital, its always been this way, and always will, get over it, its a boring argument at this stage.
It probably does Dublin more harm than good to have all the media attention anyway.

As per my last post, it was voted on THIS SITE by yourselves, NOT THE MEDIA that the Dubs were the second best team in the country.
Now if a newspaper journalist said that you would be giving out saying thats bullshit!

Now this thread is about the allstars, not the papers, so I dont get your point, unless you are saying Dublin got the awards just for being Dublin players as opposed to their performances on the field??

Interested Dublin got almost twice the vote of the next nearest team , while  Cork where joint 2nd last

40 votes out of 119 saying that Dublin are the second best team in the country.
Therefore, it must be fact....and nothing to do with there being more dublin posters on this site than any of the other teams in the shortlist.  ;D ;D :D :D

When your around here a little longer brick you'll realise Dub's are very much in the minority here . I'd say their is 6/7  regular/semi regular Dublin posters !
Anyway, long story short... is a phrase whose origins are complicated and rambling.

even so....40 votes out of 119 on one website does not make Dublin the second best team in the country.
If you look at the number of people who attended games up and down the country over the course of the year then the opinion of 40 people does not constitute fact.

magpie seanie

There is one undeniable fact - Dublin are the best team that hasn't qualified for an All-Ireland final in the last 12 years.  ;)

No one claimed it did . ::). HHN just said that when asked to vote the members of this board said the Dub's are 2nd best and that is a very good indication that the majority on this board believe Dublin are the second best team.

So it's strange to see so much moaning  about 4 All-Stars given the result of the poll

I would think this board and the straw poll would be a good indicator's of the GAA public's opinion, maybe not?

Sligo got more votes than Cork in this poll - you realise that?

Do you have to vote to go on strike to be considered?

Wouldn't surprise me Seanie. Anyone else think that Shanahan made a tit of himself at the awards when he displayed a lack of articulation when trying to have a pop at the organisation that was recognising his performances during the year  ::)

In relation to the poll results, in terms of numbers who participated compared to the number of members on the board I would deem it representative of the board. Other elements that would make it representative would be:
- It was a topic that was active the week after the AI final when any member who is interested in GAA would have been on the board and had ample opportunity to cast their vote.
- As Gnevin pointed out, Dublin is definitely under represented on this board if anything, so it would be difficult to deem a bias in the results due to this.
Dublin were clearly deemed the 2nd best team in the country by this board (and for the record, I voted An Muinechain) so this topic of the Dubs getting 4 has gone over the top.

Am I the only one that thinks that the single most glaringly poor selection on the team was Canty, ahead of both Fay & Gormley??

Fair enough and point taken about the vote.
I dont think though that you could take the results of a poll on this board as a good indicator of the public's opinion.

By the way, I never intimated that Dublin shouldnt have got 4 all-stars, I think it's irrelevant the number of players from any team that gets an all-star. The award is meant to recognise that the indivuals given the award were best in that position in the country over the course of the year. My only issue was with Ciaran Whelan...I felt there were other more deserving midfielders. I have no issue with Dublin getting 4 or indeed 10...just about that particular award.

he prob means Fergal Doherty.

I wont even discuss that as I am biased.
However
While I think he is the best midfielder in the country
Daragh o'se did not have a great season.
I thought he broke even at best v Cork in the munster final, though he was poor v Dublin (ok he went off and was obv carrying an inj) but he never shone until the final - where he destroyed both Cork midfielders.
But to me, one outstanding display does not merit an All star.
Likewise Cooper - played well twice (albeit in high profile games).
Paddy Bradley, A Brogan also lucky to get All stars.
..........

Can't actually see much wrong from the football selection though I feel Murphy (Cork) was very unlucky to miss out in midfield. If anything, he should have been selected here instead of Whelan, leaving Gormley/Fay to take the left corner spot ahead of Canty. Had Gormley got in, then that would have left Ulster with 4 all-stars....no ulster team even made the semi-finals ffs so that again was probably part of the reasoning to give Canty one. I also think Dublin were the 2nd best team and that the 4 awards is reflective of this.

Scanlon
Murphy
And the tyronnies would argue Sean Cavanagh though I would only put him on a par with Whelan.
