Interesting news surrounding the proposed changes to the Leinster Championship as per RTE today: New Leinster Hurling Championship format nears completion

Whats everyone's thoughts on this. Looks to be a good concept overall.

Smellyball

Looks like a hape of muck.
Like all championshio structures these days, its full of ifs, buts and maybes.
Also you could get hammered in every match in group 1 and still have a quarter final to look forward to.

The only thing I think is a bit "iffy" is the bottom two in group B going into McDonagh semi-finals. Honestly, wouldn't they be better off just going into relegation rather than playing for a damp squib cup?

Other than that, though, I don't see much wrong with it.

Border Rail 26

I think it could be good for laois. 2 games that they'll be very competitive in and one game that will be one to really test themselves against a team who would feel they are a level above.

Any word on a Laois manager for 2027? Is Tommy Fitz staying on for a third year?

He certainly did indicate that he would be stepping away but was ratified 2/3 weeks ago and is up and running.

Was anyone at the Clan Na Gael, Abbeyleix. I heard that it was a great game and tight.

I was wondering what you thought about a Club that has the right to pick players FROM 6 CLUBS

Shanahoe. Colt, Trumera,Clonad and if plyers from Emo and O'Dempseys want to play them the can. I want to humbely wish Clsn ns Gael all the best, But i gracefuly believe that a 6 parish amalagation is why Laois Hurling is strugling in areas ( although we have some super young hurlers, i am totaly stund that an amalganation that begins 2 miles outside Abbeyleix and ends 2 miles from Portarlington

It is almost 20% of the County, thats crazy. What about all the young men who wont make the Team. Young men will Disilusioned Disapointed and some younv lads will go back to their football clubs and throw their hurls away. Camross should have been in that group. As they alongside Abbeyleix Harps and  Casteltown will have 13 of the best under 20 hurlers in this years championship.

Jd

There is no real appetite for hurling above juvenile in the north end of the county so to say young fellas are throwing away their hurls is a bit much. You could count on one hand the names of lads who are going over to Clonad to hurl u20 . I think the club alignment where the players of the 4 clubs mentioned go to MM if they can't be catered for within their own setup will eventually filter through the age grades and that would make more sense. St Paul's ran a minor team this year with lads from Emo CWood and O Ds and MM won minor B with 2 or 3 port lads on board. I think that's the only way that you'll pull any hurlers from that end in the long term is if they go and hurl adult with MM

Thanks for your reply JD. The throwing away of hurls wasnt meantin the actual sense. When i was a ref 25 years ago, i used to zee it with my own eyes. Amalgamations almost always break, and I gaurentee that Clan Na Fael will fall apart, Why?? 4 to 6 different clubs trying to pick selectors all wanting their own players. They will eventually break up simply because there arr two many Clubs involved. The west of Lsois is mainly hurling, and the east are footnall

With respect, Portarlington are improving and they had their inter Counth hurler this year on the Laois minor hurlers. JD, the real issuei have is the hurling manager. Imagine how good young forward line could be with Aaron Dunphy,Ciaran Comerford, Cillian Dunne (super ) Justin Duggan, and hopefully his brother James will come back, Cormac Byrne ( great stick man) Mossy and gaughan Hugh whelan and Picky. 10 very good hurlers
But T.F will probably only play 3 or 7

What are you even talking about? Didn't Ciaran Comerford already get a chance with Laois? Is Justin Duggan ready? Is James going to be available? Is Whelan going to stick at hurling, long-term? Is Byrne really that brilliant? I know we're looking for some marquee forwards, but there's no good grasping at straws, either.

As for the CnaG thing, to say there's six clubs involved is, in all fairness, ludicrous. The amalgamation is Clonad, Trumera, and Colt/ Shanahoe (which is, in case you missed it, one club now). They have a lad playing football with O'Dempsey's, all right, but his family is originally from Clonad (Holland) and only moved over there recently enough, and the lad playing football for Emo is a registered Clonad player, too.

I agree that the 'A' is too small, and probably should have another couple of teams in it. However, who do Camross have at U20 that's so brilliant?

I take it you're from Abbeyleix? Even though there was only four points in it at the end, in reality Abbeyleix were well bet by CnaG, and A'leix scored the last four points to make it seem close enough at the finish.

Thanks forthe reply. I origionaly lived 2 miles from Abbeyleix, played a bit of hurling with Shanshoe. But I was shite G.O. I Reffed forva few years in the early 2000s, and I was told that i was slightly better, done a county final in every grade from u14 to intermediate, and a linesman in 3 senior finals. But my first love was reffing the underage, but iv lived in Nottingham since 2009.I found your reply slightly Negative G.O,Because other than James D, and Ciaran C ( Who has improved massivley since he got his first run. Brother I mrntioned 9 forwards, you chalanged 4 which is your right. Cornac B was u20 topbscorer in last years Leinster championship and second higest scorer in this years senior cgamoionship. Against Rosenalis, which i watched on clubber G.O, He scored two super points, one after another 50 meters from the Terrace Sideline .Look bro, we will never know if Byrne is good enough unless Th fella gets 60 minutes in next years League. Justin D is like Cillian Dunne. Both tall for theur age and will hit the target both sides. I truly hope that James D comes back as he ie soecial in my book.
And finaly Podge Dunne HAS TO COME IN.
I WATCH EVERY SINGLE GAME ON CLUBBER.

I HOPE IV MADE MY OPINIONS MORE CLEAR BROTHER.
GOD BLESS
