Raiding his favourite word of the day

QuoteHope Westmeath aren't left to rue it. 4 points ahead and a number of big opportunities to close the game out. Heslin substitution wasn't needed and was distracting.
I agree

Tadgh might as well have been carried off on shoulders after his work to set up the Heslin score.

Blowitupref

Full time in extra time. Dublin 0-26 Westmeath 2-28.  Leinster champions and fully deserved for Westmeath.
Is the ref going to finally blow his whistle?... No, he's going to blow his nose

Well done neighbours.
What a day for ye!
Play the game and play it fairly
Play the game like Dermot Earley.

Could have given me all day to predict Leinster final outcomes at the start of the championship, and I wouldn't have come up with this

Mad altogether, huge congrats to Westmeath

Gael85

Congratulations to Westmeath.  Well deserved.

I'd agree with both above without that substitution then Westmeath probably win in normal time.  Doesn't matter now as got the win and well done Westmeath enjoy the celebrations.

Brilliant stuff and if they get Luke Loughlin back fit, Westmeath won't be easy opposition in the AI series.

He's out long term?

First thing he did when he came on was win a ball. He made one mistake. That's not what cost them it in normal time.

Loughlin is done for the season. Dreadful hamstring tear.

How long will they be on the beer, and how's the motivation now. That's always the main question when a team wins the province for the first time in ages

Congratulations to Westmeath. Mark McHugh has them in serious shape and mindsets good shape also after leaving the win behind them in normal time.

As for Dublin in transition for a few years and could be a few years before they win Leinster again, big opportunity for others in the years ahead.

Westmeath worth their win 100 times over. They ought to have won it in normal time. McHugh has done a massive job and scalped Meath, Kildare and Dublin along the way. The real way to win Leinster. Heslin looked magnificent any times and Wallace in the half-back line looks as accomplished as any player in the country.

I'm actually quite concerned by just how big Dublin's transition job is. When you think of times the side could spring Bernard Brogan or Michael Dara McCauley or Kevin McManamon from the bench. Today the whole game plan seemed reliant on not having to go to the bench.

And one that really stings is how outnumbered Dublin support was today. The Senior Game is undoubtedly in crisis as much as transition.
